Open-World Splinter Cell In Development, According To Leaks

Henderson is notorious for releasing confidential game information on Twitter, such as EA’s demand for a hero shooter in the next Battlefield and Skull & Bones’ upcoming beta.

  • Henderson’s most recent report is about a forthcoming Splinter Cell game in early production. This includes two significant development terms, the first of which is a more stealthy version of Assassin’s Creed. This is somewhat odd since the series is already extremely stealthy.
  • The game will also be in an open area similar to how Halo Infinite according to reports. Halo Infinite’s campaign allows players to freely explore to complete missions and secondary objectives. This is a gameplay cycle that could work well for Splinter Cell.

Tom Clancy’s Open-World Splinter Cell

  • Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell, which debuted in 2002 and wore its influences on its sleeve. It was one of the most intriguing stealth-centric experiences of the 6th console generation.
  • Unfortunately, since 2013’s Blacklist, Ubisoft’s ex-marquee property has been dormant, but recent rumors say that a new open-world Splinter Cell game is in the works and that it will borrow from the publisher’s semi-controversial design philosophy.

It’s difficult to separate speculation from parody in the absence of official word from Ubisoft; Ubisoft’s fondness for putting open-world gameplay mechanics into recent releases is often getting made fun of by the gaming community. But, Henderson’s history of reporting on Battlefield 2042 pre-release rumors lends credibility to the claims.

Although the notions of stealth and open-world exploration appear to be at odds, and Ubisoft’s sandbox-level design method appears to be a cliché, it isn’t to say it can’t work. Games like Metal Gear Solid: The Phantom Pain and Ubisoft’s own Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey combined these two disparate themes, and similarities to the Dishonored series, minus the more fantastical parts, may not be unfounded.
