Overwatch 2: Alpha Testing Launched, Beta to Follow in April

Overwatch 2 is entering alpha testing this week. Eager players can expect a closed beta testing in April as Activision Blizzard aims to make Overwatch better than ever with its sequel.

Game Director Aaron Keeler gave a much-awaited update on where Blizzard is now for Overwatch 2

In the YouTube video, Keeler shares that Blizzard is more than satisfied with their progress on the game so far. But he also assured those anticipating the release of Overwatch 2 that they are doing everything they can to get the game released as soon as they can.

Keeler thanked the fans for their patience and understanding of how long it took their team to put Overwatch 2 out. Furthermore, Keeler apologized for Activision Blizzard’s lack of communication with their players about the game development. He also promised that the team is “committed” to giving more updates about Overwatch 2.

Further into the video, Keeler shares that the team behind Overwatch 2 focused on redesigning the game so it won’t fizzle out too quickly. He also ensured that new content is arriving regularly to the game to give players exciting and refreshing experiences.

Activision Blizzard is “decoupling” the PvP and PvE systems

Keeler says they are doing this, so players don’t have to wait longer for the PvP features of the game. It will still retain its 5v5 format while introducing new maps, hero patches, and new character models.

Additionally, Keeler shares that Overwatch 2 will feature a “ping” system that he claims is Overwatch’s most significant update since its release. This “ping” system will likely be similar to that of Apex Legends, which is innovative in its sense since it lessens the need for real-voice communications.

Alpha testing of the PvP mode begins this week

Select players are part of the alpha testing that has launched this week. Aside from the new maps and “ping” system, it seems Overwatch 2 will feature its first black female character. The new character, Sojourn is said to be playable during the alpha testing.

If you’re interested in signing up for the beta testing, head to this site to sign up. The beta testing is expected to launch in late April, with more beta tests launching later this year. As of writing, there is no confirmed release date yet for Overwatch 2.
