In 2022, there are plenty of streaming services. We have Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, HBO Max, Hulu, Disney+ Hotstar, and other local services. But guess what, they are not stopping. Viacom CBS, now known as Paramount, has launched the Paramount+ streaming service last year. In addition, they have partnered with the Sky group to expand their reach in Europe.

This expansion also comes with an expansion in the content that is going to be available on the platform, along with major plans for the coming years. A couple of days back, Paramount+ has made a slew of announcements that has got people excited about what is coming.

Content, content, and more content

Viacom CBS has made some big announcements during its Investor Day presentation. Several existing series, movies, and upcoming planned projects are already slated for release on the Paramount+ streaming platform.

  • Beavis and Butt-head: All of Beavis and Butt-head’s 200 episodes are going to move to Paramount+. In addition, a movie titled “Beavis and Butt-head Do the Universe” has been revealed as an upcoming project. New episodes of the show are also going to be available from July.
  • South Park: The show has been renewed till the 30th season, and will be exclusive on Paramount+, except in the US, where the change will happen in 2025. From Season 27, the new series episodes will be released on Paramount+ in 2024. There will also be two movies a year till 2027.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog: The second part of the movie is set to release this year. But plans are already in motion for a third installment in the series. In addition, a TV series that features Knuckles is also planned, which will be voiced by Idris Elba.

  • Star Trek: A new film that will feature the cast from previous movies is being planned. While the movie will release in theatres first, the online service will be exclusive to Paramount+. A new series, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is going to be available on the platform from May this year.

  • A Quiet Place: With the second installment having been released last year, a third movie is planned to release in 2025. This movie will be coming to Paramount+.
  • Halo: The series will arrive in March, while a new season is already in motion.

And a Little Bit More

But that is not all. There are many other things lined up for the coming years from Paramount+. A new Teen Wolf movie and Paw Patrol movie are planned. In 2023, a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles title featuring Seth Rogen is set to release, with a series of villain-driven titles planned.

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, the first movie in a new series, will arrive in 2023. A new series arrives this year, while animated films are scheduled for 2024.

That is quite a lot and quite big plans for Paramount. They are expanding so many franchises, with new original content being planned as well. While this is very exciting, viewers will be thinking about whether another subscription is really needed. The online streaming platform space has been becoming increasingly crowded in the last decade or so. Customers, faced with many options, have to make a choice if they want to watch their favorite movies and shows.
