Niantic has teamed with Ecosia to plant a tree for every player that walks 5 kilometers on Niantic Community Day, with a goal of planting 100,000 trees. This is part of Niantic’s continuous commitment to sustainability and in recognition of Earth Month this April.
The second Niantic Community Day will be held on April 23rd, 2022, according to Niantic. Niantic is taking things a step further this year by hosting a Niantic Community Day once a month until July 2022. At Community Days throughout the world, all of Niantic’s games will be showcased.
On the 23rd of this month, this event will begin. This means that if you play Pokémon Go, Ingress, or Pikmin Bloom outside, you might be able to grow trees with Ecosia. Niantic Community Days will take place in 65 places across four continents in April.
Niantic is promoting good practice. Fans that participate in the effort are simply enjoying the game while also helping Mother Earth and making a difference. 100,000 trees would certainly help, and hopefully, other developers will join in and organize similar activities for the community to help save the planet.
