Pokemon: How To Defeat Lucian (Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl)

Lucian, the psychic-type enthusiast, is a member of the Sinnoh Elite Four. She can be quite the foe when players in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl encounter her. Most trainers might find themselves back at the entrance to the Pokemon League entrance when they lose to her seemingly unaffectable Pokemon.

In order to defeat Lucian, trainers will need to be prepared with all the information about her and about what to expect when they face her. Similar to other Elite Four members, Lucian uses only one type of Pokemon, which in her case is the Psychic-type. Trainers and their Pokemon will face the following

  • Mime (Lv. 59)
  • Medicham (Lv. 60)
  • Girafarig (Lv. 59)
  • Alakazam (Lv. 60)
  • Bronzong (Lv. 63)

It is advised to avoid using Poison- or Fighting-types, as they will be the most affected by Lucian’s Pokemon. Among Lucian’s Pokemon, Bronzong and Alakazam are the most powerful. Bronzong can use the Trick Room status move which will allow it to attack first in the following 5 turns if it is slower than the trainers’ current Pokemon. As for Alakazam, it will use Future Sight attack often, which will deal lots of damage to most types after two turns even if Alakazam is not in the field.

Battle Tips

  • The best defense technique is to use Dark-type Pokemon. This will deal double damage against Psychic Pokemon while being affected very little.
  • It is recommended that trainers should have one high-level Murkrow, which has moves such as Sucker Punch and Foul Play.
  • Murkrows of level 50 can be found in the Grand Underground’s Spacious Cave, Grassland Cave, and Riverbank Cave.
  • Further, trainers will need to counter Bronzong’s Trick Room. For this, players will need a Pokemon slower than Bronzong, in which case Steelix will be useful.
  • Steelix can be found in the Victory Road caves. With moves like Crunch with 80 Power and other effective moves likes Dark Pulse and Payback, Steelix can prove very helpful in combat.
  • Another option for trainers who are finding it difficult to get past Lucian is Gabite. Gabite does not deal extra damage to Psychic-types but can prove useful with Dragon-type TMs such as Dragon Claw and Dragon Pulse. Gabite can be found in the Fountainspring Cave Hideaway and the Riverbank Cave.
