Pokemon Scarlet and Violet are the newest titles in the series of games based on the hit anime television series of the same name. Along with the new titles, there are also new abilities that Trainers can use to gain the upper hand in every Pokemon battle they participate in. If you’re only starting on your journey to becoming the best, you’ve come to the right place! Here are all the new abilities in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. All new abilities in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
To make your experience in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, you should become acquainted with a wide variety of abilities you can use in battle. By doing so, you can form the perfect team compositions and lineups to aid you on your journey.
There are a total of 31 new abilities introduced in both titles. Some of the new abilities available to Trainers can only be used on specific Terrains so be mindful of that! Here is a brief overview of the new abilities. Scroll down to know more about each ability’s effect when used!

Anger Shell
If one of your Pokemon is dealt an attack that causes its HP to drop to half or less, it gets angry. In its angered state, their Defense and Sp. Def stats are lowered. On the flip side, its Attack, Sp. Atk, and Speed stats receive a significant boost.
Armor Tail
With this ability, a mysterious tail covers the Pokemon’s head. This tail makes it impossible for enemy Pokemon to use their priority moves against the Pokemon with the Armor tail and its allies.
Beads of Ruin
The Beads of Ruin ability in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet lowers the Sp. Def stats of all other Pokemon.
Commander
For this ability, Trainers need a Dondozo on their team. With an ally Dondozo on the field, the Pokemon can then go into its mouth and issue commands from there.
Costar
Pokemon with this ability can copy an ally’s stat changes.
Cud Chew
If a Pokemon with this ability consumes a Berry, it will spit the Berry out at the end of the next turn and eat it again.
Earth Eater
Instead of taking damage, a Pokemon restores its HP when hit by a Ground-type move.
Electromorphosis
When taking damage, Pokemon with this ability become charged. If they use an Electric-type move while they are in a charged state, it boosts the move’s power.
Good as Gold
A Pokemon has a body made out of solid gold that makes them immune to other Pokemon’s status moves.
Guard Dog
A Pokemon’s Attack stat is boosted during the battle when it gets intimidated. Any moves and items forcing the Pokemon out of the battle will also be unusable.
Hadron Engine
When the Pokemon with this ability joins the battle, the ground transforms into Electric Terrain. On the new terrain, the Pokemon’s Sp. Atk stat gets a boost with the help of the futuristic engine.
Lingering Aroma
If an attacker gets into contact with Pokemon using this ability, it changes their Ability to Lingering Aroma.
Mycelium Might
Pokemon with this ability will always hit the enemy Pokemon with their status moves. The only catch is that they act slower when using status moves.
Opportunist
Another new ability in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is the Opportunist ability. If an enemy Pokemon’s stats are boosted, Pokemon with this ability will take the opportunity to boost the same stats as well.
Orichalcum Pulse
Pokemon with this ability make the sunlight harsh once they join the battle. When this happens, their Attack stat receives a boost.
Protosynthesis
Similar to the previous ability, Protosynthesis can be activated in harsh sunlight. Additionally, if a Pokemon is holding Booster Energy, this ability is activated. The Pokemon’s most proficient stat receives a boost when this occurs.
Purifying Salt
In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, one of the abilities you can use protects you from Ghost-type moves. Using the pure salt of the Pokemon, it protects itself from status conditions and decreases any damage taken from Ghost-type hits.
Quark Drive
If the Pokemon is on Electric Terrain or if they are holding Booster Energy, its most proficient stat receives a significant boost.
Rocky Payload
Most effective for Rock-type Pokemon. This ability powers up any Rock-type moves cast.
Seed Sower
When a Pokemon gets hit by an attack in Scarlet and Violet, the Seed Sower ability turns the ground into Grassy Terrain.
Sharpness
When casting slicing moves, it becomes more powerful.
Supreme Overlord
Best save your Pokemon with this ability in the middle or final stretch of a battle. When a Pokemon enters a battle in Scarlet or Violet, its Attack and Sp. Atk stats receive a little boost depending on how many allies in its party have been defeated.
Sword of Ruin
With the Pokemon’s ruinous sword, it lowers the Defense stats of every Pokemon excluding itself.
Tablets of Ruin
This ability in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet gives a Pokemon the power to lower the Attack stats of every Pokemon aside from itself.
Thermal Exchange
If a Pokemon gets hit by a Fire-type move, its Attack stat is boosted and it cannot be inflicted with any Burning status.
Toxic Debris
When a Pokemon takes damage from physical moves, poisonous spikes will appear at the feet of the units in the enemy team.
Vessel of Ruin
Through the ruinous vessel, the Sp. Atk stats of all Pokemon aside from the one with this ability are lowered.
Well-Baked Body
Fire-type moves are ineffective against Pokemon possessing this ability. The Defense stat gets a large boost when hit by a Fire-type move.
Wind Power
When a wind move hits a Pokemon with this ability, it becomes charged. While it is charged, any Electric-type move the affected Pokemon uses next is more powerful.
Wind Rider
If Tailwind takes effect or if the Pokemon is hit by a window move, its Attack stat is boosted. Furthermore, wind moves deal no damage to Pokemon with this ability.
Zero to Hero
If you switch out a Pokemon during a battle, it transforms into its Hero Form.
