Poppy Playtime 2: Why Kissy Missy Helped Instead of Attacking You

Is Kissy Missy a Friend or a Foe?

In Poppy Playtime Chapter 2, one of the main antagonists, Kissy Missy, introduced herself by helping the protagonist of the game. In a scene where The Player stumbled upon what seemed to be a locked gate, a giant silhouette suddenly appeared. Many initially thought that it was Huggy Wuggy (again). Everyone thought Huggy was still alive, until, lo and behold, Kissy Missy came out from the dark. Unlike other toys in Poppy Playtime, Kissy Missy appeared to be docile and friendly rather than sinister and vile which is honestly quite odd.

With that being said, how come Missy helped the protagonist?

Kissy Missy opened the locked gate but she did not attack nor tried to eat The Player. Missy didn’t even budge, instead, she just moved forward and eventually disappeared into thin air. Perhaps the reason behind Kissy Missy’s actions was because she was a reincarnation of a genuinely kind and good-natured person. Does this ring a bell?

10 years ago, something bizarre happened in Playtime Co.

The prototype living toys escaped the confinement facility and started to go on a killing spree, slaughtering all of Playtime Co.’s staff. It has been years since the last time someone stepped foot in the factory until The Player arrived. Initially, these living toys were designed to give care and company to orphan children. Everything was going well until the toys turned into the dark side and posed a malicious intent.

In Chapter 1, everyone met Huggy Wuggy and Mommy Long Legs. Both looked friendly at first, but soon became monsters filled with rage. That’s probably because their hatred and anger are all directed at adults, not at orphan children. With Kissy Missy, it was very different. Why was that the case?

Theory: Kissy Missy was Stella Greyber

In a found VHS tape in Chapter 1, a female character was being recorded during an interview with a Playtime Co. employee. It later turned out to be Stella Greyber, a newly hired employee who worked in the factory’s game station. In her exact words, Stella told the interviewer with an upbeat attitude,

“Playing with toys when I was young, was so magical! I could go straight from my bedroom floor to anywhere in the world! It was such a great feeling, and being able to work at a toy factory, somewhere that can provide kids with that same experience? That’s a pretty great feeling too!”, she then resumed and added a very notable remark, “sometimes though I really, really wish I could go back, to being a kid. It’s weird because, I mean, adults are just kids, but older!”

Although nothing is confirmed and there is no strong evidence yet if Stella Greyber is really Kissy Missy, her whimsical and kind attitude already gave it away. It may also come in handy that Kissy Missy may have been the “Perfect Prototype”. Someone that did not have any intent to kill or someone with pure intentions. Other toys that tried to slaughter the protagonist may be because of a botched experiment causing human souls inside these toys to get confused and extremely angry. Either way, after Playtime Co.’s mess, it’s difficult to point out the truth.

Not to shake anyone’s trees, but Huggy Wuggy also looked innocent at first then turned feral in the long run. Will that also happen with Kissy Missy? I guess we’re gonna find out in Poppy Playtime Chapter 3!
