It seems GTA 6 is breaking free from its usual set of protagonists. A rumor claims the game will feature its first ever female lead. Additionally, GTA 6 is reportedly set in Vice City but will open up more cities as players progress. Read on to find out more.
There will be a female lead in GTA 6 inspired by Bonnie & Clyde
First reported by Bloomberg, the news outlet shares that they have information from sources close to the studio of Rockstar Games. According to their source, GTA 6 is letting players take on the role of two characters. This feature is similar to GTA 5 wherein players can alternate between Franklin, Trevor, and Michael.
However, GTA 6 will reportedly have two playable characters. Moreover, the pair is said to be inspired by Bonnie & Clyde, a famous couple known for their daring acts of robberies back in the day. Additionally, Bloomberg’s source also shared that the female lead will be coming from Latina roots.
Although there have already been female characters in GTA Online, this rumored female lead is a first for Rockstar. In the past, the protagonists of the game’s campaign are all men. So it would be interesting to see how Rockstar handles having a female lead for the campaign mode in GTA 6.
On the other hand, there is no information yet on the other half of this Bonnie-inspired female lead. Although Rockstar may have been inspired by Bonnie and Clyde for this pair, it’s possible both leads may be female. Or to play it safe, they could always have the other half of the pair be a male character.

The new game is reportedly set in Vice City and will expand over time
Other details shared by the source close to Rockstar is that GTA 6 has been in development since 2014. Moreover, they first called it ‘Project Americas’, which might be an indicator that the game will add more cities as players progress. However, the first city accessible to players in GTA 6 may be Vice City.
In the report, it claims that Rockstar plans to update GTA 6 over time much like other live service games. And with each update, they will introduce new missions as well as brand new cities to the mix. We can only hope that this won’t mean other cities will be locked behind paywalls or downloadable content (DLCs).
Bloomberg also shares that their source claims that the map for GTA 6 is “a fictional version of Miami and its surrounding areas.” So with all that being said, we’re definitely excited to see how Rockstar is going to pull off this “live-service” feature for GTA 6.
It sounds interesting, but we can only hope that they won’t pull any stunts like ridiculous in-game purchases just to gain access to key features of the game. And if the rumors are true about GTA 6 having a female lead, we’re definitely looking forward to what the new game has in store.
As of writing, there is no official release date yet for GTA 6. Previously, there have been talks that GTA 6 is set for a release between April 2023 through March 2024. However, that release window may be impossible since there have been various changes in the team working on GTA 6.
