During XboxEra’s most recent podcast discussing anything and everything related to Microsoft’s gaming console, they mentioned something about a project revival. According to one of the podcast members, the Xbox exclusive called Scalebound might be returning soon, but they reiterated that this is just a rumor for now. Nonetheless, they emphasized that there is a possibility for Scalebound’s revival.
Is Xbox-exclusive Scalebound returning?
If you missed out on XboxEra’s recent podcast show, both @_Sikamikanico_ and @Shpeshal_Nick talked about what’s in store for Xbox fans in the future. At one point, @Shpeshal_Nick revealed that a source told him Platinum Games and Microsoft are teaming up to finally bring Scalebound to the Xbox. Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to gather information about how far along the companies are in reviving the unreleased Xbox-exclusive title.
- Back in 2014, Microsoft announced that Scalebound would be released for the Xbox One. As time passed, Microsoft started teasing its players about what to expect in the upcoming game. By 2015, a gameplay trailer for Scalebound confirmed that it will be getting a multiplayer mode.
- Everyone had high hopes for Scalebound to release by 2016. Unfortunately, it never met its supposed 2017 release date when Microsoft broke the news that it was cancelled altogether.
- At this point, eager players don’t have any expectations about the project coming to fruition anytime soon. But with what @Shpeshal_Nick revealed on their XboxEra podcast, we’re definitely looking forward to Microsoft teaming up with Platinum Games to revive Scalebound on the Xbox.
Big things may be coming from Microsoft and Platinum Games
Any gamer would be familiar with projects from Platinum Games at this point. They have developed and released games like Bayonetta and Nier: Automata. With that being said, a lot of gamers were really looking forward to Scalebound’s release. Now that there are rumors again coming from a pretty reliable source about anything Xbox-related, it’s possible for Scalebound to finally see the light of day.
Of course, always take information like this with a grain of salt. Unless we get confirmation from either Platinum or Xbox, these rumors are just that – rumors. Moreover, this isn’t the first time talks about the game’s revival are swirling in the community.
- Back in 2019, Atsushi Inaba (studio head/producer for Platinum Games) expressed interest in Scalebound returning. From the looks of it, Inaba and his team are committed to bringing the game back if they were given the opportunity to do so. Right now, the ball’s in your court, Xbox!
It would be interesting to see whether Xbox will push through with this project and take a chance with Platinum Games once more. Following Bayonetta 3’s successful release, it would be foolish of Xbox to let this opportunity pass them by. And who knows, maybe we’ll get more information about this project from Xbox during their Developer Direct event later this month!
What do you think about these rumors? Will Scalebound ever be released for the Xbox? Or is it time to stop hoping and accepting the fact that Scalebound was a failed project?
