Giancarlo Esposito as Professor X 2

Despite the great Patrick Stewart’s appearance in MCU as Professor X in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, there is a rumor that someone might take his place going forward. An iconic actor that is recently in talks to take on the mantle is no other than Giancarlo Esposito. Esposito has shown a massive interest in playing the character in the MCU. As much as we love to see Stewart reprise his role as Professor Charles Xavier, some people think that the Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul veteran is also perfect for the role of the leader of X-Men. With that, here are five (5) reasons why we think Giancarlo Esposito is perfect to become the much-awaited MCU version of Professor X.

Giancarlo Esposito’s resume as a supporting actor is top-tier

The 64-year-old actor’s project is extremely impressive as he has been in some of the best TV shows in his career. For one, he became famous for playing Gus Fring in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul (in which he won Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series during the Critics Choice Awards 2023). He also stole the show in Amazon Prime’s The Boys as Stan Edgar and in The Mandalorian as the show’s main antagonist, Moff Gideon.

Simply put, Esposito is a fantastic actor and a versatile one at that. Although he is leaning more toward villainous roles and a more serious note, his fans are rooting for him to step into the shoes of Professor X in the future.

His voice can give Morgan Freeman a run for his money

Indeed Morgan Freeman may have one, if not the most iconic voice, of all time. Same goes for Giancarlo Esposito. Admit it, you also love hearing his villainous voice. The spine-chilling and anxiety-inducing words that come out of his mouth are next level.

Patrick Stewart’s voice is also iconic. For some reason, we have already associated Stewart with Professor X since the early 2000s. Though it would be hard to have a change, it’s not entirely bad.

Esposito has already met with the executives at Marvel

As informed by Marvel and Kevin Feige, the X-Men franchise will be getting a reboot as they are about to join the MCU. Because of that, Feige and Marvel studios may want a new face.

With the two parties (Esposito and Feige) showing interest in each other, it’s not surprising that both have already talked behind closed doors.

“I’ve been in a room with [Marvel Studios] and talked with them” Esposito revealed during an interview. “I’m going to go and put it out in the universe that it is Professor X.” He added.

Giancarlo is not entirely new to the world of superheroes

Yep, you got it right. Giancarlo Esposito played, not an overpowered supe, but just a mere human being. Yet he still managed to become one of the strongest characters in The Boys with just his sheer will and leadership.

One of the reasons why he’s a perfect choice for the role of Charles Xavier is that he can now easily adapt to the environment of superheroes. He has been in three seasons of The Boys, an X-Men movie wouldn’t be that difficult, would it?

He can easily steal the show and bring a lot of audience to his projects

We’re going out on a limb here but we’re going to take a phrase from The Wolf of Wall Street: “I never asked my clients to judge me on my winners, I asked them to judge on losers because I have so few”. Giancarlo is definitely the embodiment of this famous phrase.

Truthfully, every time Esposito portrays a character in a movie or a TV show, he steals the entire show. He mostly just acts as a supporting character but sometimes, he becomes the guy everyone is suddenly watching. Phase 4 of MCU has mixed reviews and as the studio is going to the next phase (Phase 5), they need someone to bring more charisma and a more positive vibe to the franchise, something Giancarlo Esposito can offer.
