Journey’s alleged feud with Arnel Pineda Explained

The band Journey produced huge hits that almost everyone in the world knows. Starting from 1973 up to the present, the American rock band continues to showcase their love performances to their fans. In late 2022, the current members, Neal Schon and Jonathan Cain may have gotten into a feud. So is it a rumor or is it true that the Journey band plans on firing Arnel Pineda as their lead vocalist? Let’s take a trip down memory lane of what happened that led to this rumor.

The band currently tours from city to city to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Despite the feud between its members, they’re civil enough to perform their music in front of a crowd.

  • In December 2022, Neal Schon filed a cease & desist order against another member of the Journey Band, Jonathan Cain. A long list of misunderstandings between the two members, and we don’t think that’s going to stop.

  • The cause of the order began when Cain used the Journey’s Don’t Stop Believin’ in a Donald Trump event. The other songwriters of the iconic song, Schon and Steve Perry expressed disappointment. “Journey is not, and should not be political,” Schon added in the letter.
  • Before that, Schon also filed a lawsuit against Cain. He claims that Cain set up another credit card without the knowledge of his bandmate and used the band’s funds. This was counter-attacked that Schon was denied the band’s credit card as he allegedly spent over $1 million on personal expenses.

Twitter Feud

Late last year, one of the founding members, Neal Schon posted on Twitter with co-founding member Gregg Rolie. He captioned the photo with “2 original founding members”. Honestly, it thrilled the fans.

  • Schon opened up about asking the band to have Gregg Rolie tour with them last month. Arnel Pineda’s name came nowhere to be found in the issue, not until Schon’s wife, Michaele Schon, may have hinted a bit.
  • On January 12, she took her sentiments on social media. Michaele adds, “TWO BAND MEMBERS are ‘adamant ‘NO’ fighting against Gregg Rolie to return.”

  • People have flooded Twitter with negative comments and rumors that Jonathan Cain and Arnel Pineda are the two members called out by Michaele.
  • As of this writing, Pineda’s firing considers being a rumor. It just came from his Tweet saying that “they can fire me anytime”.

  • Arnel also replied to one of the Tweets about this ‘Journey band drama’. Using the official Facebook page of Neal and Michaele, they replied to a fan about the two members and said “Let’s pray they learn spirituality someday”.

  • Arnel tweeted again rebutting the Schons’ Facebook reply of forgetting where they came from. He states that where he came from is in his heart every day. He added that he’s not a slave but rather a human like everybody else.

Current members

The band consists of three permanent members. OG members include Neal Schon as lead guitarist and backing vocals and Jonathan Cain as keyboardist and guitarist. While Arnel Pineda plays the lead vocalist. Pineda joined the band way back in 2007.
