Overwatch is, without a doubt, one of the most trending and popular games in today’s gaming world. Not only that, but it is also highly critically acclaimed and is the winner of The Game of the Year award. So, it is only natural there will be tremendous hype around the sequel of the game. Fans have been waiting patiently for it, but unfortunately, it has been delayed again.

The Delay

This is not the first time that the highly anticipated game has been delayed. Overwatch 2 was first announced in 2019 and since then, it has been delayed n number of times. Last we heard; it was delayed to sometime in 2022 but now even that doesn’t seem like a possibility. A few days ago, a leaker Metro revealed he had heard that the game’s development wasn’t proceeding well. Hence, to fans’ dismay, the 2022 release is now looking very unlikely.

Obviously, the news is heartbreaking for the fans who have been waiting for it since forever. This is a time when the gaming industry is booming, and fans might quickly switch to other similar games. So many delays can amount to a loss of interest for the fans and financial losses for the developers. But again, no developer would intentionally delay a game so, there might be a good reason for it.

The Reasons and Leaks

As per Metro, the game is facing some development issues. Some parts actually seem good but there are some issues due to which, the game is being repeatedly delayed. According to him, the new heroes that they want to add for Overwatch 2 are done. Apart from that, the single-player campaign development is complete, and the multiplayer maps have also been developed.

The problem lies in the heroes as they require some serious rework. After the sneak peeks which were released by the developers, fans pointed out how busted the heroes actually were. That is when Blizzard realized that they need to rework the existing heroes and that changes everything. Hence, the delays.

“The thing they have not done is they did not consider reworking any heroes. For example, last time they showed the updates, the PVP sneak peek, they hadn’t even considered how McCree might be completely busted with a stun in Overwatch 2,” Metro explained,

He went on to point out how developers have only a little clue as to how their own game’s gameplay works. It’s changing from a 5v5 from 6v6 and that changes a lot about how characters work. Apparently, just providing great graphics, storylines, or maps isn’t enough. One needs to understand the gameplay as well, only then they could provide an optimum gaming experience.
