Soloist CHUNGHA leaves MNH Entertainment: Will she stop her idol career?

Soloist CHUNGHA leaves MNH Entertainment Will she stop her idol career

Agencies and entertainment in the South Korean pop industry should know how to handle their artists well. Artists, may it be idols or actors, do change their agencies from time to time. Not renewing contracts isn’t new news to K-pop fans now, recently K-pop group MOMOLAND announces that members would not be renewing theirs. While the K-pop community saddens another 3rd generation group loss, coming hot as fire, soloist and former I.O.I member Kim Chungha decides to leave MNH Entertainment for good. Will Chungha stop her idol career as well? Read more to find out.

Chungha parted ways with MNH Entertainment

In recent news from SportsWorld on the afternoon of January 30, the soloist ends her time with MNH. The 26-year-old’s contract sets to be renewed in March but decided not to. The known soloist’s contract concludes in March 2023 as well.

  • Since I.O.I’s years ended, Chungha became one of the members to continue as a soloist. MNH handled Chungha when she joined the survival show, Produce 101, debuted in I.O.I, and re-debuted as a solo artist. If we are to imagine, the small company started with Chungha, and now decides to end their partnership on good terms.
  • According to a report from Koreaboo, the decision came from a long, series of discussions from both sides. MNH and Chungha both came to the decision to support each other in the following chapters of their careers.

  • Furthermore, an entertainment insider also mentions that solo artist Kim Chungha challenges to see herself in a new environment. After all, MNH Entertainment has been her “comfort zone” for a long while, it’s time for some change.

Will the soloist stop her idol career?

This question has been the first thing we asked when we saw the news. SportsWorld only mentioned that starting March 2023, Kim Chungha becomes a free agent (FA). We can assume that this means that CHUNGHA will continue her idol career no matter what.

  • MNH Entertainment has yet to address and confirm this news, as of this writing. Moreover, for Chungha, we hope we can hear about her future plans soon. There are possibilities where she can start her one-man agency, or sign with other agencies, either way, Byulharangs will support her!

 Chungha and MNH

The most recent music she released trails way back in July 2022, with a studio album entitled “Bare&Rare, Pt.1“. The album’s title track “Sparkling” gives the dance-pop, and cute sounds, while the rest of the album screams dark, serious, and sexy vibes.

  • If you noticed, there should be a Pt.2 which fans eagerly waited for last year. In a live last year, Chungha spoke about the postponement of the second part of the album. She said that it got “delayed due to the company’s condition again”.
  • During the same live stream that the soloist commenced, you can see frustration and disappointment from Chungha toward the company. A fan got noticed commenting about Chungha World Tour, and the soloist mentioned that it’s on her bucket list, so why isn’t MNH letting her do it?

  • Lastly, and most controversial perhaps, was when Chungha read a comment saying why isn’t she leaving the company. In the now-deleted live broadcast, Chungha jokingly replied, “I want to leave. Please let me go,” then proceeds to take the words back.

Well, we hope we can see a brighter idol career ahead of Kim Chungha wherever she plans to do. Bare&Rare Pt.2, please!
