Sonic Co-Creator Shocked At “Sonic the Hedgehog” Cartridge Price

On a surprising note, the original copy of Sonic the Hedgehog made a record-breaking sale price. Even the former head of Sega was shocked at the $ 430,500 price tag. This is not only a record for the game but is the all-time highest sale price for any Sega Genesis title!

The co-creator of Sega, Yuji Naka, had also looked at the sale and has spoken about the possibility that it might be a scam. However, this is not an unprecedented event. Earlier this year, a collector bought an original copy of the Super Mario Bros for a whopping $ 2 million dollars.

WATA Certified

The Sonic sale has been “WATA Certified”. WATA is a grading company. However, it has its history of getting accusations of manipulating the retro video games market. People also accuse the co-founder of selling company games on eBay, under a different alias.

“Wata Games is the trusted leader in collectible video game grading and we’re honored to play a key role in this booming industry that we are incredibly passionate about. We’re humbled by the support of our thousands of customers who trust us to provide accurate and transparent grading. The claims in this video are completely baseless and defamatory and it is unfortunate that Mr. Jobst did not contact us to give us the opportunity to correct him.”

While this may have come as a surprise, not just to the gaming community, but to the co-creator of Sega himself, it is true all the same.
