Sony PS6: Release Date Prediction and Pricing Based on Historical Patterns

Sony PlayStation 6: Release Date and Pricing Based on Historical Patterns

So, a lot of people are considering buying the PS5 Pro versions, and some are having debates about grabbing PS5 Pros or keeping their old PS5s. However, in some cases like mine, I am already waiting for the release of PS6. Let’s try and look for a possible release based on the previous releases of PlayStation Consoles and what might be the possible hardware. Let’s begin.

Past PlayStations

Let’s start with a quick look at when Sony dropped the previous PlayStations:

PlayStation Model

Release Date

PlayStation 1 Dec 3, 1994
PlayStation 2 Mar 4, 2000
PlayStation 3 Nov 11, 2006
PlayStation 4 Nov 15, 2013
PlayStation 5 Nov 12, 2020

Will there be a PlayStation 6 soon?

Now, here comes the fun part – predicting when the PlayStation 6 might hit the scene. A smart guess would be the years 2026-2027.

To estimate the potential cost of the PlayStation 6 (PS6), we can look back at the pricing trends of its predecessors. Below is a table summarizing the launch prices of recent PlayStation consoles:

Console Release Year Launch Price
PlayStation 1 (PS1) 1994 $299
PlayStation 2 (PS2) 2000 $299
PlayStation 3 (PS3) 2006 $499/$599
PlayStation 4 (PS4) 2013 $399
PlayStation 5 (PS5) 2020 $499/$399

Based on the history of PlayStation releases, a new console tends to come out every 6 to 7 years. Looking at recent prices, the PS6 might be priced between $499 and $599. These are just guesses, and the actual price may differ as Sony hasn’t officially announced the PS6 or shared any details about it.

PS6 Possible Hardware Upgrades

As per Techopedia, the PlayStation 6 is anticipated to bring some exciting upgrades:

  • Enhanced Processing Power: The PS6 might feature a custom-designed processor.
  • Next-Gen Graphics: Graphics card supporting 8K resolution.
  • VR Integration: PS6 could have VR integration (potentially with a dedicated PSVR 3).
  • SSD Storage: PS6 is likely to include SSD storage.
  • Backward Compatibility: Rumors suggest that the PS6 may support backward compatibility.
  • Controllers: Sony is trying to create new features like a controller with an earbuds charging case.

  1. Any educated guess is purely speculation but nothing is guaranteed just because the average life cycle of past PlayStations was a specific amount of time. Just like the Nintendo Switch successor, nothing is guaranteed it’s speculation based off rumours and hearsay.

Saying the PS6 “might” feature …
Might being the keyword, but doesn’t necessarily guarantee anything.

It’s rumours and hearsay! I’ve been reading articles about PS6 sence the day after the PS5 released.
