You have already heard of an Xbox and Discord collaboration, but you haven’t heard of this one yet: PlayStation is planning to integrate Discord voice chat in the coming months. Earlier this year, Sony announced that every PlayStation user (PS4 and PS5) can now link their Discord account. However, the integration of Discord voice chat in PlayStation gaming hasn’t been confirmed, until now.
According to an industry insider, Tom Henderson, the integration of Discord into every PlayStation account. By integration, we mean incorporating the social media and voice chat feature of Discord into PlayStation consoles, specifically PS5.
Sony to Integrate Discord Voice Chat in “The Coming Months”

Last year, in May 2021, Sony announced its partnership with Discord. After buying shares of the said platform, Sony aims to continue delivering the best quality of service for its users. PlayStation President and CEO, Jim Ryan, once said in an interview that:
“Our goal is to bring the Discord and PlayStation experiences closer together on console and mobile starting early next year, allowing friends, groups, and communities to hang out, have fun, and communicate more easily while playing games together.” – Jim Ryan said.
When is Discord x PlayStation coming?
As per Henderson and from his sources, the integration could roll out alongside the release of PlayStation firmware version 7.00. The latest patch update was last July 7 (5.50) while the next update, version 6.00 could be somewhere in mid-September. That being said, version 7.00 could be out by end of this year, together with the PlayStation and Discord integration.
Henderson also added that this scheme has been in the quality assurance phase for months now since it was announced and that it has been “going very well”. With that news, it would be safe to assume we are getting closer to the official implementation of Discord on PlayStation.
The power of Discord: Cross-platform gaming at its finest
For gamers, Discord has been the go-to app when it comes to communication in gaming communities. Whether it be in the chat box, voice chat, or other forms of messaging, Discord always delivers.
Discord was originally used by PC gamers as a way to easily communicate with their teammates or fellow gamers, but this idea quickly spread to other platforms such as Xbox and PlayStation. With Xbox and PlayStation officially adding this feature in the future, players wouldn’t need their phones or computers for that matter. Just a simple click and everyone may go their merry way. As a result, games available in cross-platform play could highly benefit from this new addition and gamers would be extremely delighted. As of this moment, Discord has over 350 million registered users who are using either the mobile or PC version of the app.
