Starfield, developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, is an upcoming action role-playing game. Initially announced in 2018; an expected release is by November 2022. It has been said that it will be a whole new experience in a new space-themed world. Microsoft, which has acquired Bethesda, has announced that Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive. However, fans of Bethesda without an Xbox have been hoping that this will change.

Fans have been discussing the possibility that Starfield will be making its entrance to other platforms; consoles later on after its release. This discussion took place even after the announcement that Starfield will be an Xbox exclusive, die to a misunderstanding during a Bethesda Gamescom 2021 stream.

No Starfield for PlayStation

Pete Hines, the vice president of global marketing at Bethesda, stated that “there are going to be [some Bethesda games] that you’re not going to be able to play on PlayStation.” In particular reference to Starfield, Hines said that “it was announced as a thing that’s an Xbox exclusive, I don’t know if I would go so far as to say you’re done ever playing stuff on PlayStation. But again, I don’t know the answer to that right now.” This led fans to harbor hopes that Starfield would come to other platforms and consoles after an exclusive time period on the Xbox consoles.

Following tweets that dwelled on the hopes of release on other consoles, the General Manager of Xbox’s Marketing Aaron Greenberg has put down all rumors about Starfield being available on PS 5, stating that Starfield will is “not a timed exclusive.”
