The Last Of Us Part 2 Sold 4 Million Copies In Its First 3 Days

The Last of Us Part II Review

Update (26 June): PlayStation has officially confirmed that The Last of Us Part 2 (or The Last of Us Part II) has sold 4 million copies in its first 3 days. That’s until June 21st. With this milestone, The Last of Us Part 2 has become the fastest-selling first-party exclusive so far.

To celebrate the success, Neil Druckmann shared the following message –

We are so immensely grateful to the millions of fans around the world that have played The Last of Us Part II and shared their experiences with us over the last week. We set out to tell a new kind of story, one that deals with difficult themes and would challenge you in unexpected ways. Hearing how the experience has resonated with so many of you and witnessing the type of thoughtful discussions it has sparked has been so incredible. We’ve also been so inspired by your creativity — whether it’s your gorgeous Photo Mode shots, jaw-dropping gameplay GIFs, or the songs you’ve recorded using Ellie’s guitar.

The Last of Us Part II was made possible thanks to the efforts of the hundreds of talented and passionate developers here at Naughty Dog. We can imagine no greater honor than seeing that same passion mirrored by the people playing it. Thank you for helping us reach this amazing milestone.

Original Story:

The Last of Us Part 2 is this year’s biggest launch so far. The game broke all records, including Nintendo’s wildly popular Animal Crossing: New Horizons. New player statistics report says that the game sold around 4 million copies within its first 3 days. If the numbers are even nearly accurate, the figures are more than what Marvel’s Spider-Man or God of War achieved.

According to GameStat.com, over 4.12 million players earned at least 1 trophy in The Last of Us Part 2 by 22nd June. This doesn’t exactly translate to sales, but the sales numbers should be around that. They could be more or less, depending on how the users played the game, whether copies were shared, review copies, etc.

On the game’s launch day, i.e., June 19, over 1.87 million players earned their first trophy. The numbers increased to 3.03 million the next day, 3.71 million on June 21st, and finally, 4.12 million on June 22nd. Over 8,100 accounts have nothing but The Last of Us Part 2 in their libraries.

Marvel’s Spider-Man in its first 3 days saw 3.39 million players with 3.3 million copies sold. God of War had 2.69 million players in its first 3 days with 3.1 million copies sold.

Although we don’t have an exact figure for The Last of Us Part 2’s sales as of now, we know it broke all PlayStation first-party exclusive records.

The game is wildly popular in the North American and Asian countries. South Korea in particular showed a high interest in the game.

We reviewed the game and rated it a 9/10 rating. You can check out our review by clicking here.
