The latest update from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 reveals that its release date is moved to 2023. Nintendo issued an apology for the eager fans wanting to continue Link’s journey. But in return, they released some never-before-seen footage of the highly anticipated sequel.

Team behind Breath of the Wild 2 apologizes for the sudden delay of the game

Eiji Aonuma, the producer of the Legend of Zelda titles spoke in a video uploaded to Nintendo’s YouTube channel. He began the video by giving fans an update on where the game is at. But further into the video, he apologized for the delay and gave fans a sneak peek of what’s to come in the sequel.

In Aonuma’s words, he expressed that “the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer”. But aside from that, Aonuma did not give an exact reason on why the game is releasing in Spring 2023.

The Legend of Zelda is no stranger to changing release dates

Back in 2017, the first Breath of the Wild game also got delayed. But we can’t help but think that it’s a good thing since the game turned out pretty amazing. Aonuma himself had words to say about the delay five years ago.

“Every time we make a Zelda, we want to make something new. It’s hard to gauge how long that’s going to take. And it’s also hard to gauge at what point whatever we consider to be new is done. A lot of times what we try to tackle takes a lot longer than anticipated. So that’s why many times the development struggle there is a delay. The people around us keep telling us: ‘This is the last one. You really need to shape up.'”

So if they’re delaying the Breath of the Wild sequel to make sure it’s great, then they’re free to take their time. Besides, what’s the point of rushing a game’s release if the overall experience is unsatisfactory?
