The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Next-Gen Edition Might Be Coming Soon, Gets Rated

Witcher 3 is often considered to be one of the best games ever made as well as one of the best RPGs of all time. In the first-ever Witchercon earlier this year, the next-gen update for Witcher 3 was announced. This update called The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Complete Edition will be coming for all platforms. It will also be making a debut on PS5 and Xbox Series. It was supposed to release this autumn, but it was delayed, and so was Cyberpunk 2077. But now, it seems like it might be coming out really soon.

Gets Rated in Europe

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen versions for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S have been rated in Europe by Pan European Game Information (PEGI). As expected and necessary, it was rated 18+ due to the violent and profane nature of the game. The rated version is not The Complete Edition with Netflix-inspired DLC that we hoped for.

Instead, the rated version is the Game of the Year Edition which consists of both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine expansion. It was rated in 2016 for the PC Version, 2019 for Nintendo Switch version and display 19th October 2021 as the date for next-gen console versions. This clearly suggests that more information about the next-gen version is bound to arrive really soon.

Though it is not the Edition we wanted to hear about, it is good news for next-gen console owners. It confirms that at least the Game of the Year Edition will be arriving very soon, probably in December, on the PS5 and XBOX X/S consoles. As for The Complete Edition, we are yet to hear from CD Projekt Red, and it is possible that we might hear from them in the upcoming weeks.

The Complete Edition

Ever since this year Witchercon, fans have been eagerly waiting for The Complete Edition as it will feature some new DLC. Fans were a little disappointed because of the delay in release but things seem to be shaping up now. CD Projekt Red could still match the timeline and release both Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 next-gen by December 2021. Till then let us recap what all this complete edition of Witcher 3 will bring:

  • A debut on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X
  • The next-gen update will be free for everyone who already owns the game
  • New Netflix’ The Witcher inspired DLC. This might include a new skin Henry Cavil for Geralt, armor, and weapons based on the show, etc.
  • Bug and glitch fixes

This upcoming version might mark the end of new developments for Witcher 3 as its title suggests it is “The Complete Edition”. More updates for the 2015’s epic game seem improbable, especially since rumors about Witcher 4 are already in the air.
