Another young athlete suddenly passes away for an unknown reason. The University of Nevada Las Vegas football freshman and defensive lineman Ryan Keeler was found dead in his studio apartment in Las Vegas on Monday. Keeler was only 20 years old at the time of his passing. UNLV has announced the young man’s untimely death on social media and is grieving alongside Keeler’s family and friends.
“We are devastated to have lost a member of our Rebel family,” UNLV football team head coach Barry Odom said. “While I had the honor of knowing Ryan for only a couple of months, he already stood out to our coaching staff as an incredible person, student, and teammate. Our condolences and prayers go out to Ryan’s family as we grieve along with them over this tremendous loss.”

One of Ryan’s teammates discovered his dead body in his home. As reported, the unnamed teammate found Ryan as he was “unresponsive”. The police were immediately called and later on, Ryan Keeler was pronounced dead on the spot.
What happened to Ryan Keeler?
- The 20-year-old Ryan Keeler joins the long list of young athletes who suddenly died at a very young age. Keeler’s cause of death is still unknown as authorities are still investigating the incident. Moreover, the athlete’s blood was tested and blood toxicology results are still awaited. The test could last up to 22 days, depending on the substance that the blood is being tested for. In addition, the detectives in charge of the case are still going over the death of Keeler. However, “foul play” has been ruled out by the police. The reason behind his death is still to be determined.
- Ryan had just completed his freshman year at UNLV. The Chicago native first suited up for Rutgers University. However, he transferred to UNLV to play for the Rebels last year. After playing just 7 games for the team, Keeler already received recognition by being selected as one of the two “Rebels of the Week” last week. Not only is he an amazing athlete, but he is also an outstanding student. With his 3.8 GPA, the student-athlete earned “academic All-Mountain” while majoring in pre-business.
- Ryan Keeler’s death was truly very devastating. His demise shocked, not just UNLV, but the whole world, especially since he is a very young sportsman. His family, friends, teammates, coaches, and everyone who knew Keeler is mourning his death, and prayers are pouring into the internet. 2023 was supposed to be a big year for the budding athlete, unfortunately, this happened.
