The end of 2022 also marked the end of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel’s Phase Five is an essential bridge to lead up to their most-awaited 2026 Avengers films – Secret Wars and The Kang Dynasty. Now, what do they have in store for us in Phase Five? Let’s take a look at all upcoming Marvel films this 2023 and beyond.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania

Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly return as Ant-Man and the Wasp in the first upcoming Marvel film of 2023 and Phase Five.

  • The new adventure has the heroes explore the Quantum Realm even further. Fans eagerly await this film for the entry of Kang the Conqueror, played by Jonathan Majors.

  • A time-traveling, multiversal adversary Kang is expected to be the next big thing in the world of MCU villains. He made his first appearance as the creator of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in Loki, the Disney+ series.
  • Directed by Peyton Reed who made the previous Ant-Man films, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania releases on February 17, 2023.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

It’s a Marvel homecoming of sorts for the head of DC Studios, James Gunn. The third part of the vastly successful Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is set in Knowhere, which is now an alien refugee camp.

  • Chris Pratt, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, Bradley Cooper, and Vin Diesel reprise their roles as Star-Lord, Drax, Nebula, Mantis, Rocket, and Groot
  • Zoe Saldana’s Gamora returns as a younger version of herself in the film, despite being killed off by her adoptive father Thanos in Avengers: Endgame
  • Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is set after the events of The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special (2022). The upcoming Marvel film releases on May 5, 2023.

The Marvels

Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel and Kamala Khan’s Ms. Marvel unite together in The Marvels for an exciting power-swapping adventure.

  • In the film, Danvers, Khan, and S.W.O.R.D agent Monica Rambeau begin swapping places with each other every time they use their powers and must team up.

Rest of MCU’s Phase Five

  • Ms. Marvel’s release date on July 28, 2023, marks the end of the calendar year for Marvel films. However, Phase Five will extend until the end of 2024.
  • The other three films on Phase Five’s list are Captain America: New World Order, Thunderbolts, and Blade

  • Apart from films, 2023 is an important year for Marvel’s Disney+ TV shows as Loki and What If? get new seasons. Secret Invasion and Agatha: Coven of Chaos is also expected to be released in 2023.

Phase Four was a mixed bag for the MCU. Marvel enjoyed box-office storms like Spider-Man: No Way Home as well as forgettable outings like Thor: Love and Thunder. Furthermore, with new Disney+ series like WandaVision and Loki, Marvel made a dominant entry into the TV market. With promising upcoming films and TV shows, 2023 will be an interesting year for Marvel.
