Upcoming TV Show Adaptation of Games

Let’s take a look at a list of TV show adaptations you shouldn’t miss!

Since the 1990s, there have been many movies that have been based on games. We have a vast collection of animated films and movies, but the genre has not been able to take off all too well. To date, Sonic the Hedgehog has been the best movie so far but has underperformed compared to other live-action movies. Detective Pikachu did well too, but not all too well.

  • What could be the reason? Are fans not satisfied? Or should games just stay on our gaming devices? Well, we do not know. But hey, this does not mean people do not enjoy these movies and series.
  • There are plenty of fans out there who would love to see a visual make of their all-too favorite games. And to be fair, we cannot ignore those films and shows that have actually done well, such as The Witcher.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell

This game is a classic stealth shooter from Ubisoft. The franchise began in 2002 and lasted till 2013 with Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Blacklist. For almost a decade now, there has been no release, and it seems Ubisoft is not ready to indulge either.

However, in other exciting news, Netflix had announced a TV show adaptation based on the franchise. Derek Kolstad, the creator of John Wick, is also the writer of this show. There are some high expectations for this one, given the nature of the games and that Kolstad is involved.

Far Cry

Far Cry 6 has just recently been released, and the buzz around it is just starting to die down. But, it has been revealed that two animated series based on the game have been planned by Netflix.

Almost nothing is known about either of the shows, except a little about the second show. It is said to be titled “Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, and is based on Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

Assassin’s Creed

Netflix is at play once again and has planned a live-action series based on the popular Ubisoft franchise. There is already a movie from 2016 starring Michael Fassbender, but it failed to impress. Once again, almost nothing is known of the show, except that Jeb Stuart, the creator of Vikings: Valhalla, will be involved.

Twisted Metal

This show has involved Deadpool’s writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and cast Anthonie Mackie in the lead. The game franchise is a series of games centered on vehicular combat. Twisted Metal is a tournament that is held once a year in the games, and players are basically tasked with destroying enemy cars.

But there is more to the games, as the hosts of the game award wish to the winners, which always have a twist in them. There is also a good chunk of dark humor in the games. Combining this with what we have already seen in Deadpool I and II, we can expect some good entertainment.

Tomb Raider

While we have seen the movies, a new animated series is being planned by Netflix. We have a few names that we know are involved in this project. Tasha Huo, the screenwriter who is also working on The Witcher is involved.

In addition, Hayley Atwell, who played Peggy Carter in the MCU, is set to take up the role of the adventurer Lara Croft. Allen Maldonado is going to be cast as the tech-expert Zip, in addition to Early Baylon playing Jonah.

The Last of Us

This one can be expected the soonest. The shooting had begun in July 2021 and is said to end in June this year. The cast includes Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, and Gabriel Luna, who will play Joel, Ellie, and Tommy respectively.

Pascal has very recently promised to the public that the series will “more than live up to” the game” and we are hoping that is true. The TV show adaptation is expected to come out in 2023.

Halo

This title had been planned back in 2013 but did not materialize till recently. At first, Steven Spielberg was to be involved as producer, with a release planned for 2015. Spielberg was replaced by Rupert Wyatt in 2019, with a release scheduled for 2020.

Once again, Wyatt was replaced by Otto Bathurst, who is known for his work on Peaky Blinders. The first episode is set to air on Paramount+ on the 24th of March, so not much time left now. Get ready to witness Master Chief and his crew on your screens very soon.

The Cuphead Show

This is one is releasing today, the 18th of February on Netflix. This show is based on the 2017 run-and-gun game. The game was in turn inspired by early 1900s animation from Walt Disney and Fleischer Studios.
