Valorant 5.12 patch: Will Chamber nerfs make him unplayable?

Valorant players know by now that Chamber is one of the most picked agents in the current roster. Even in major events such as the VCTs, many pro players main Chamber. If you’ve been playing Valorant for a while, then you know Riot Games buffed Chamber’s abilities. This played a part in changing up the meta in Valorant, so it’s only natural for Riot to take notice of this agent becoming OP. Bad news for Chamber mains as he is getting hit with major nerfs in Valorant patch 5.12, possibly making him unplayable. Stay with us to read all about the Chamber nerfs coming to Valorant soon!

The beloved French agent is too overpowered in Valorant now

Riot Games has revealed that they’re going through with the rumored Chamber nerfs a lot of Valorant players have been worrying about. According to Riot Games, Chamber got these nerfs to maintain a balanced gameplay among players in Valorant. In addition to that, they want to keep Chamber’s identity. Since he received his buffs, players have been using this agent as a Duelist and Sentinel. Unlike the other Sentinels, Chamber is overpowered for his own good.

  • Chamber’s pick rate in Valorant significantly increased just months after his release. What else did we expect from an agent whose Ultimate Ability gives him an Operator as a weapon?
  • Another perk to using Chamber in Valorant is you technically already have a Sheriff. The only difference between the agent’s Sheriff from the one you can purchase in the Buy Phase is the number of bullets. For Chamber’s Sheriff utility, you’re purchasing the bullets instead of the gun itself. You can also ADS (aim down sights) using this for more accuracy

  • More Valorant players are picking Chamber because of his ability to instantly teleport. Of course, Omen can do this. However, Chamber’s teleport is instant compared to our broody Controller. If you’re a master at using an Operator in Valorant, then Chamber is the best pick for you. After shooting at an enemy with the Operator, you can instantly “TP out” to avoid getting damaged by other enemies

Chamber is getting major nerfs in patch 5.12

According to the agent designer in Valorant, they are aware of how overpowered Chamber is in the game.

“The more we iterated the more it was apparent that his current mechanics were shaping play space in an unhealthy way, infringing on other agent identities, and breaking Valorant’s core tactical cycle.”

In the same blog post, they have laid out the changes being implemented to Chamber’s kit in the coming patch. Here are the complete patch notes for the Chamber nerfs:

Headhunter (Q)
  • Updated Stability Curve
  • Spread increased after second bullet when spamming. This is explicitly meant to reduce low-precision body-shot spam as an effective combat measure.
Rendezvous (E)
  • Chamber now places a single anchor that can be teleported to while inside its range.
  • Diameter increased from 15 meters to 26 meters.
  • Removed teleport activation height restriction.
  • You can teleport to the Anchor while on different verticality so long as you are within its radius.
  • Increased weapon equip time after teleporting from 0.4 seconds to 0.7 seconds.
  • Headhunter is unaffected by this change.
  • Destroying Rendezvous teleport anchor now disables it for the remainder of the round, instead of being placed on a cooldown.
  • Chamber no longer incurs an additional cooldown when recalling his Anchor after teleporting.
Trademark (C)
  • The trap is now range restricted
  • Trademark will disable when Chamber moves out of range, and reactivate once he is inside.
  • Can now be recalled mid-round
  • Does not require line of sight.
  • 30 seconds cooldown on recall.
  • Destruction remains permanent.
  • Initial Arm Time increased from two seconds to four seconds.
  • Health Increased from one to 20.
Tour De Force (X)
  • Fire rate decreased by 57.5 percent.
Slow
  • This applies to both Trademark and Tour De Force
  • Reduced from 50 percent to 40 percent.
  • Reduced duration from six seconds to four seconds.
  • Reduced size by 30 percent.

Will Chamber be unplayable in Valorant now?

These nerfs will undeniably affect Chamber’s gameplay and pick rate in Valorant. However, this doesn’t mean he will be entirely unplayable. Look at the bright side, these adjustments will help Chamber be a new pick for players who prefer the Sentinel role during matches.

  • One can also liken Chamber to how Astra and Cypher became when they were nerfed. Despite the adjustments, players still found ways to work around these to their advantage
  • It will only be a matter of time before a Valorant content creator uploads new strategy guides to making Chamber an effective Sentinel. Contrary to what Valorant players are saying, Chamber isn’t going to be a weak agent at all. All these nerfs do is balance him to change up the meta in Valorant

At the moment, there is no official release date for Valorant patch 5.12. It looks like we’ll also be seeing more of Split as Riot is adding it back to the standard map pool.
