Valorant patch 6.06: Is Gekko still a variable pick after nerf?

Gekko and Winging from Valorant

Valorant’s patch 6.06 just recently dropped and introduced many changes including the new Agent, Gekko. Ever since his release, many players have complained about how overpowered his utilities are and Riot Games are taking action. Thus, the new patch holds quite important to Gekko mains in the competitive shooter.

The main focus on Gekko’s nerf with Valorant’s 6.06 patch is Wingman (Q) and Mosh Pit (C). As per official notes, the damage to objects for Mosh Pit has been reduced from 2.5 to 1 and Wingman will permanently die if at last life. But, are these changes enough to make the agent not so useful?

Analysing Gekko’s nerf with Valorant 6.06 update

Valorant always takes itself seriously when it comes to game balancing after the release of new agents. Gekko has been dominating charts of pick rate and performance for a long time. However, Riot Games expects to see some changes after the release of the 6.06 patch.

Since’ Gekko is an Initiator Agent, it is crucial for him to make powerful enough to keep opponents at bay or take a fight to them. What sets him aside is his Wingman ability which allows him to make Spike plants while endangering himself. Many players have abused his ability to max as they would revive him multiple times to outlast everyone.

However, that changes with patch 6.06 as his Wingman will be permanently dying if he is last alive in a round. So, Gekko mains have to be careful when using him during crucial moments. Apart from that Wingman’s ability is powerful enough to support his Initiaor title in Valorant.

Talking of Mosh Pit, the ability can be used once in a round and has been crucial in his ability lineup. By using the ability, the character can kill anyone in an effective radius or hurt enough to make them an easy target. However, if it comes to destroying the utilities of opponent agents, it is slightly less effective.

With changes made to Gekko’s Mosh Pit ability, it will only affect damage done to objects and not Agents. As a result, the ability is still useful and lethal enough against opponents stuck in a specific spot.

Final conclusion

Overall, Gekko’s nerf with Valorant’s 6.06 patch mostly affects Wingman and still keeps him a viable pick for ranked games. Nonetheless, the Agent is good enough as an Initiator, and the ones who main the character do not have to worry that much with his recent Nerfs.
