Starting July 6, Twitter might have a strong competitor in the form of Instagram’s Threads. Now that Twitter is running into all sorts of issues and negative feedback from its users, Threads looks to take full advantage of the situation. What is Instagram’s Threads App, and how can you get it?
Instagram’s Threads App
Threads is a decentralized social networking platform that uses text. Threads is deeply integrated with Instagram and functions as an extension of Instagram, allowing users to post text, photographs, and videos with their followers.
Despite the fact that Threads will be a stand-alone program, Instagram users will be able to maintain their current user names, handles, and verification statuses when logging in to Threads.
Set to be available on July 6, 2023, Threads is basically a mix-up of Twitter and Instagram. As most of us know, Instagram is known as a place to share Stories and Photos. On the other hand, Threads is more focused on the text, similar to how Twitter is modeled.
Little is known about the app besides that it will display a timeline similar to Twitter and let you link your Instagram account. However, we can expect something surprising from Threads, as it is owned by Mark Zuckerberg, who is known to launch innovative ideas on his social media applications.
How to get Threads app
The app is not currently accessible for download on platforms. For now, a countdown clock and a QR code are available by getting the ‘pre-invitation’ ticket from the Instagram app.
- Log in to your Instagram on your phone or website.
- Go to the search bar and type ‘threads’.
Instagram Thread Red Ticket - A red ticket icon will appear on the right side of the search bar.
- Click on the ticket.
- It will show you a fancy-looking ticket with your username, a countdown, and a QR code.
Threads Invitation Ticket - You can click the ‘Get Threads’ button at the bottom.
- It will take you to the AppStore. According to this page, Threads will be available starting July 6.
Instagram’s Threads features

From the official screenshots of the Threads app, we can see some notable features:
- Similar to Instagram, you can like, comment, and DM any thread post.
- There is a reshare button that looks identical to Twitter’s Retweet button, which lets you share a thread to your own thread.
- You can write up to 500 characters per post, almost twice as much as Twitter’s limit.
- You can personally choose who can see your post. It could be anyone, only users you follow, or users mentioned only.
