Who is Calista Flockhart?
Calista Flockhart is an American actress who has added multiple accolades to her list of achievements. She is notably known best for portraying the lead role in the Fox Television series Ally McBeal from 1997 that ran till 2002.
The Ally McBeal actress is a three times nominee for Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in Comedy and the Golden Globe Award winner in 1998.

From the onset of her career, Calista Flockhart has indulged herself in the genre of Romantic comedy (rom-com). Her big break that came with Ally McBeal may have carved this into stone.
What was Ally McBeal about?
The premise of the series was primarily that the title character, Ally falls into this weird romantic love triangle. Ally joins the fictional Boston based Law-Firm named Cage and Fish. The fun part begins when she finds out that her ex-boyfriend will be joining her at Cage & Fish farm as her colleague.
But where is the triangle you ask? The triangle includes her ex-boyfriend, with the inclusion of his wife. Ex-boyfriend Billy Thomas is then married to her other colleague and lawyer, Georgia.
Why is Calista Flockhart famous?
- The comedy genre did get to the best of Calista. Her outstanding performance lead the series to win the Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series in 1999.
- The primary claim to Calista Flockhart’s performance was that Ally McBeal in its initial run lead to outstanding critical appraisals.
- But as the series neared its fifth season, not only did its rating plummet, but it also failed to garner even a nomination at the Emmys. Fox then went on to cancel the show.
- Calista’s journey did not end there. She went on to appear in films, namely Birdcage in 1996. A Midsummer Night’s Dream in 1999 and then Things You Cant Tell Just by Looking At Her in 2000.
- Although she did appear in other filmographies, these three could be said to primarily mark her days leading to the cancellation of Ally McBeal.
Calista Flockhart’s return to TV series
- The Ally McBeal actress soon then turned back into the TV series department. Beginning with the ABC drama series, Brothers & Sisters. It is notable that her later performances did not bring the same acclaim as her Ally McBeal rendition did.
- Nonetheless, she went on to portray the Comicbook fictional character Cat Grant in the superhero series CW, Supergirl. From 2015 up to 2021, until the sixth season of arrowverse’s Supergirl.
- She also made occasional appearances in Arrowverse’s connected universes, including Grant Gustin, who starred in The Flash.

Calista’s romance and comedy genre garnered her well-endowed recognition. Partly because her portrayal of Ally McBeal garnered a new angle in the feminism debate. This was endowed by Time Magazine portraying her on their cover in 1998.
