Who is Cooper Flagg? | The high school NBA prospect who reportedly beat Bradley Beal 1-on-1 could be the next big star

Who is Cooper Flagg

The NBA has never been short of extremely talented players coming into the league each year. We’ve seen LeBron James in 2003, Kevin Durant in 2007, Kyrie Irving in 2011, Luka Doncic in 2018, Victor Wembanyama in 2023, and many more. Some of these players we named were already prospects going back to their early basketball years. Even in high school, the superstars we know today were already being scouted by NBA teams who always believed they have the potential to become the next big thing. Recently, news is breaking out about a high school star who’s making waves on social media with his amazing basketball talent. His name is Cooper Flagg. This young prospect reportedly embarrassed the NBA All-Star Bradley Beal during a 1-on-1 game. Let’s find out more about Cooper Flagg and how good he is.

Who is Cooper Flagg?

Cooper Flagg is a 16-year-old phenom hailing from Newport, Maine, and currently plays for the Montverde Academy Eagles. The American basketball star is a 6-foot-8 athletic forward who became sensational due to his impressive scoring ability, emphatic dunks, and tenacious shot blocking which highlighted his high school varsity career so far. Recently, Cooper Flagg made his way to the Nike EYBL Peach Jam Tournament which he easily dominated. Although the league also featured some stars like Bryce James, Bronny James, Cameron Boozer, and Jaeden Mustaf, Flagg was probably the most outstanding player there.

As of the moment, he has not committed to any university but has received numerous D1 offers. The most notable school that has been recruiting Flagg is Duke University (Duke Blue Devils). If he decides to enter the NBA, Flagg will be eligible for the 2025 draft and could compete with the NBA legend Carlos Boozer’s son, Cameron Boozer, and many others.

Did Cooper Flagg really beat Bradley Beal in a one-on-one game?

Rumors are spreading that the high school kid from Maine, Cooper Flagg, embarrassed the 3-time All-Star Bradley Beal. Former NBA player Brian Scalibrine heard about this rumor during Jayson Tatum’s camp wherein there were talks that Flagg was easily beating Beal in a one-on-one matchup.

“I heard a rumor that my boy Cooper Flagg was at Jayson Tatum’s camp and he was busting Brad Beal 1-on-1, and Brad Beal got mad at him. Started cussing him out,” Scalabrine apparently said on Tuesday’s Starting Lineup show. “This dude is a major trash-talker. … So I guess the rumor is that Brad Beal and him were squaring off 1-on-1 and Brad Beal was taking it lightly. It’s a high school kid. Then Cooper started giving it to him. And I guess the rumor is, Cooper started talking trash and Bradley Beal got mad. Really mad.”

However, Phoenix Suns’ Bradley Beal responded to the rumor with a hilarious comment. Obviously, he thinks this is fake with his comment stating “Huh?” with two laughing emojis and two caps. Well, only Jayson Tatum can then prove if this is real or not. But, would you really believe that Cooper Flagg beat an NBA veteran, let alone an All-Star? I highly doubt it. Cooper Flagg is a good prospect, but he hasn’t reached the skillset of an NBA player just yet.
