Chapter 1100 of the hit manga series One Piece contained some intriguing panels focused on Admiral Kizaru that have sparked a new fan theory – could Kizaru turn traitor against the World Government and Saturn?
The chapter explored the tragic backstory of Kuma, the former king of the Sorbet Kingdom who became a Pacifista cyborg under Vegapunk’s experiments. In one panel, we see Kizaru alongside Kuma and Bonney, happily eating and dancing together. This fun-loving scene seems out of character for the normally stoic Admiral and hints at a deeper bond between them.

For an Admiral to form friendships with pirates imprisoned by the World Government is alarming on its face. But could this mean even more? Fans speculate that over time, Kizaru came to regret not intervening to stop the horrifying modifications done to Kuma’s body and mind. Now, with Bonney also condemned to death, Kizaru may be on the brink of forsaking his loyalty to the World Government in order to protect another friend from harm.
One Piece Egghead Island Arc: Will Kizaru betray Saturn and the World Government?
- Fans speculate that Kizaru formed a friendship with Kuma and Bonney during the six months they were together at Vegapunk’s lab. Though Kizaru did not stop Kuma’s transformation into a Pacifista, perhaps out of both respect for Kuma’s choice and not wanting to oppose the World Government, Kizaru may have come to regret it over time. He would have witnessed firsthand the horrors inflicted on his friend.
- The theory goes that with Bonney now also slated for execution by Saturn, Kizaru will be unable to stomach the World Government harming another “old friend.” He may choose to take action to save Bonney, similar to how Aokiji subtly protected Nico Robin despite his allegiance.
Several of Kizaru’s recent lines seem to support this potential change of heart. When capturing Bonney, he pleaded, “Please don’t make me kill any more old friends.” And regarding Vega, he said “I don’t want to kill him … he is an old friend.” For an Admiral known for his “Unclear Justice,” this strange mercy towards traitors signals inner conflict.
Kizaru betraying Saturn would set the stage for the Final War:
While Kizaru is an extraordinarily powerful combatant, even he likely would not be able to defeat Saturn alone. However, together with Gear 5 Luffy, his chances become far more feasible. If Kizaru’s change of heart translates to allying with the Straw Hats to take down Saturn and save Bonney, it would make a formidable combination.
- This alliance would have earth-shattering implications within and beyond the World Government if successful. The unthinkable image of an Admiral and Yonko working together to assassinate one of the Five Elders would shatter Marines’ core (God help Akainu if that happens).
The Elder’s death and Kizaru’s betrayal, especially with Luffy present, would force the Gorosei and Imu’s hand. They would likely utilize the full military might at their disposal to try and make examples out of Kizaru and the Straw Hats, bringing us into the final war against the WG and Marines.

The Egghead Island Arc could become a catalyst for the betrayal of an Admiral, the death of a Gorosei Elder, and the beginning of the end for the World Government’s tyrannical rule. After seeing the horrors inflicted on his friend Kuma and now Bonney under the guise of “Absolute Justice,” Kizaru may finally take a stand for what he believes is right.
Conclusion:
The theory is exciting but speculative for now. However, Oda is known for long-term plot twists that radically reshape the status quo. Kizaru’s sense of justice does seem at odds with the Government’s increasing extremism. If he allies with Luffy out of a sense of justice and a desire to protect Bonney, it would be a dramatic yet believable turning point.
