Sam Raimi is once again rumored to direct two new Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, and he’s said to be Marvel Studios’ top choice. As the director of some of the hit Marvel movies, including the original Spider-Man trilogy, it’s easy to see why Raimi has become a fan favorite, but is there any truth about this? Let’s see the possibilities.
Sam Raimi to Allegedly Direct Avengers: Secret Wars
Rumors have it that Sam Raimi will be directing two big Star Wars films: Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. The news comes after the claims that Marvel is facing serious problems today due to underwhelming performances and plans to change its cinematic strategies.
Originally, The Kang Dynasty was supposed to be helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who’s behind the 2021 movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. However, according to reports, the filmmaker left the project to focus on his other endeavors. But there are theories that his exit might have something to do with the issues surrounding the recently released Marvel film, The Marvels, led by Brie Larson.

That said, Daniel Richtman, a known insider, claimed that Raimi has now become the top pick to direct the said movie, along with Secret Wars. World of Reel also reported this rumor back in September.
However, Raimi isn’t the only one running to direct Secret Wars and The Kang Dynasty. There are also claims that Ryan Coogler and Jon Watts are among the top contenders.
Fans React to the Rumors of Sam Raimi Directing Avengers: Secret Wars and Avengers: The Kang Dynasty
The possibility of Sam Raimi directing the future Avengers movies, Secret Wars and The Kang Dynasty, has been met with mixed reactions online.
One fan said that if he does Secret Wars, the multiverse will be saved by an army of Bruce Campbell variants instead of the next generation of Avengers, X-Men, and Fantastic Four, among others.

However, some also celebrate this claim, with one saying that if he directs the next Avengers films, they will easily earn billions of dollars each.
“Sam Raimi would watch like two MCU movies, talk with Kevin Feige for like 10 minutes about Kang, and then proceed to make the most insane, wild, and epic CBM in years,” another said. “He did it once; he can do it again.”

“I see a lot of people bagging #SamRaimi and saying ITMOM’s failures were his lack of direction. I disagree; when he had a clear way to do his thing, that’s when the Doc peaked,” @duskybatfishgrl explained about the controversies surrounding Raimi’s take on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
Sam Raimi’s Previous Marvel Movies
Aside from the original Spider-Man trilogy, Sam Raimi has already directed several Marvel movies.
Just recently, he helmed Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which was met with mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. The 64-year-old made the film after its original director, Scott Derrickson, left directing it due to “creative differences.” The script was rewritten numerous times—33 rewrites to be exact, according to the MCU actor, Xochitil Gomez, who played the role of America Chavez.
He was also a story consultant for Spider-Man: No Way Home and was interviewed for the Assembled episode of The Making of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Sure, Sam Raimi has big shoes to fill after the success of The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron, directed by Joss Wheldon, and Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Secret Wars being helmed by the Russo Brothers. However, it can’t be denied that he has already made a big name in the industry when it comes to superhero films—take it from the success of the original Spider-Man trilogy, which is still being lauded today compared to its successors.
As criticisms will always be there, the mark he has left will never be erased, making him one of the top contenders to do the next Avengers movies. Who knows, he may even end up saving this franchise.
