Will Steph Curry play in the 2023 NBA All-Star game? (Latest updates on Curry’s injuries)

Steph Curry 2023 All Star

Earlier this week, Steph Curry limped to the locker room after colliding his knees with Dallas Mavericks guard Mckinley Wright IV. According to the Golden State Warriors, Curry’s MRI showed that the superstar point guard “sustained partial tears of his superior tibiofibular ligaments and interosseous membrane, as well as a lower left leg contusion”. To put it simply, Curry sprained his lower leg which led to him leaving the game early last Sunday against the Mavs. With his current condition and the NBA All-Star weekend coming nearer, will he be able to return to the floor before the break? Will he play in the All-Star game this year?

Steph Curry may be out for the next five games, according to various reports

ESPN reported that Curry will be out indefinitely, probably sideline in multiple weeks following his recent injury. That being said, it’s highly likely the greatest shooter of all time will not be participating in the 2023 All-Star game. Curry, who won the 2022 NBA All-Star game MVP,  also suffered another injury earlier this season. That injury concerned his shoulders which made him miss a few games. Warriors’ head coach Steve Kerr as well as the fans feared that Curry’s latest injury would end his 2022-2023 season early. Thankfully, that wouldn’t be the case as everyone had a sigh of relief knowing that his condition is not extreme.

“The good news is he’s going to be back,” Steve Kerr said in an interview last Sunday. “We don’t exactly know when, but it’s not an injury that’s going to keep them out for the season. He’s going to come back this season and hopefully sooner rather than later, but we’ll know more in a few days.”

The Golden State Warriors are currently sitting on the 7th seed in the West (28-26), just barely above .500. The reigning NBA champions are looking to repeat this year with all of them playing together. Despite the team’s underperformance so far, they’re still a tough team and a legit championship contender.

Who is going to replace Steph Curry as an All-Star starter in the West?

The Western Conference has Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Ja Morant, and Damian Lillard as reserves (point guards). However, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a high chance of becoming a starter on his first all-star selection as a substitute for Curry. The Oklahoma City Thunder point guard is putting up huge numbers and is playing like an ultimate centerpiece for OKC.

On the other hand, who would fill the remaining spot as a reserve would be a juggle between De’Aaron Fox and James Harden. Either way, we would love to see either guy play in the All-Star, especially Fox, who is yet to receive a nod to the most stacked game we’ve ever seen.
