Ever since Witchercon 2021, players have been patiently waiting for the next-gen console update for The Witcher 3. At Witchercon, the new update for Witcher 3 was revealed to be Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt – The Complete Edition which will probably be the last update for the game. Also, Cyberpunk 2077 was also supposed to get the next-gen console update by the fall of 2021, but it isn’t here as well. Now we have received an update on the situation, and it is not something that you’ll like.
Delayed Again
CD Projekt Red’s plan was to release the next-gen console versions of the two games by autumn 2021. Autumn has passed and fans were now hoping to see them towards the end of the year but that won’t happen as well. We bring you bad news as both of them have been delayed to 2022 and it’s official.
The devs took to Twitter to announce the bad news and apologized for the inconvenience and delays. They stated that though it is causing numerous delays, they want to do it right. Owing to the production delays and recommendations of the supervisory teams, CD Projekt Red has postponed the games to the first half of next year.
They stated that their refreshed target for Cyberpunk 2077 new gen update is the first quarter of 2022. The refreshed target for Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt – The Complete Edition is the second quarter of 2022. This is very disappointing news, especially for Witcher fans as they have to wait an extra 6 or so months now.
Why The Delay?
The delays make sense since Cyberpunk 2077 has some serious glitches and technical issues which need to be corrected in the next update. They are so many glitches in Cyberpunk 2077, that fans consider it to be a half-baked and unfinished product. Any fans were disappointed as Cyberpunk could have been a lot better if it just ran smoothly.
Similarly, even after 6 years of its release, Witcher 3 also faces some minor glitches here and there. But there are not many technical issues with Witcher 3 and only a few bug fixes are required. The delay with Witcher 3 – The Complete Edition is because most of the team is working on Cyberpunk 2077. Since Cyberpunk is a new game, it requires much more attention. The urgency to correct it is much more than a minor DLC release for a 6-year-old game.
The upcoming version might mark the end of new developments for Witcher 3 as it is titled “The Complete Edition”. As for Cyberpunk 2077, there is a lot that has to be done to make it even half as great as Witcher 3 is.
