The Witcher franchise is one of the most popular franchise thanks to the amazing games, and recently the TV series. While the books by Andrzej Sapkowski were best sellers, the games are in the league of their own. Not only do they nail the storytelling and worldbuilding, they also let you be the Witcher in a massive world. One aspect of that world was Gwent, the card game which has a fan following of its own. It was so adored by the fans, that CDPR released a standalone Gwent digital card game. Now, it seems like they are expanding it!
Project Golden Nekker
Fans of the franchise know that Nekkers are one of the monster group in Witcher world which appear quite frequently. But Nekkers are not what we are going to talk about here. Instead, the center of interest is the upcoming venture by CDPR which is being called Project Golden Nekker.
Project Golden Nekker is said to be a standalone card game just like Gwent. With this upcoming project, CD Projekt Red’s Gwent team aims to provide a “captivating single-player experience”. They have hinted that this upcoming game is going to be different from previous versions of the digital card game.
“It’s not another Witcher Tales [game] but something different. We’re aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayer Gwent,” said Gwent Comms Lead Paweł Burza.
Project Golden Nekker Release Date
Project Golden Nekker is all set to release sometime in 2022. Our guess will be sometime towards the end of the year or more precisely around October 2022. Also, this year’s Gwent roadmap revealed that new cards will be released in April, July, October, and December. So, considering that, it is also possible that it releases in May 2022. But that will be too soon for a game that’s just been announced, no?
The game will be standalone, which means, it won’t require players to own any other versions of Gwent. Some concept art for the upcoming project was also released:
