There was a point in the WNBA when Australian superstar Liz Cambage looked like she was the next big thing in the league. In 2018, Liz set a career-high 53 points while also setting the Dallas Wings and WNBA record for most points scored in a game. But, where is this female giant now?
What’s up with former WNBA star Liz Cambage?
Before we head into the latest Liz Cambage update, let’s take a look back in memory lane. The Australian center was drafted 2nd overall in 2011 by the Tulsa Shock. But, before coming into the top-tier American league, she was already a prospect in the WNBL in Australia. Fast forward to her WNBA stint, Cambage was already a heavily experienced pro basketball player. A year after, in 2012, she represented Australia in the London Olympics and brought home the Bronze medal. It took her a while before she decided to return to the WNBA because she played in China for a few months right after the Olympics. In 2013, she played for Tulsa for 20 games that season but ultimately left to play again in China.
For five years, Liz Cambage would be a household name in the Chinese league, breaking record after record. Eventually, she would find herself coming back to the WNBA and signing with the Dallas Wings. She also played for the Las Vegas Aces in the next couple of seasons.
Then, in February 2022, Liz agreed to play for the Los Angeles. Unfortunately, her time there was not really good. It was problematic, to say the least, and all fingers pointed to the Australian star. In July, her request to be released by Los Angeles was granted and three weeks later, Cambage announced she was leaving WNBA altogether.
Cambage’s most recent run in the pro scene is a short stint in Israel.
Earlier this year, in March 2023, the 32-year-old star played for the Maccabi Bnot Ashdod team of the Israeli Female Basketball Premier League. She finished her WNBA career with 4 WNBA All-Star games, 2 All-WNBA Team selections, and career averages of 15.8 PPG, 7.5 RPG, and 1.6 BPG.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Liz Cambage is going back to China. Reports said she’s about to get the bag as she will be signing a 3-month/$1 Million deal with Chinese team Sichuan.
“I have always loved my time in China and I am really looking forward to getting out onto the court again”, Cambage said.

Liz Cambage’s career is ambitious yet tumultuous, marred by a series of controversies
There’s no denying that Cambage was one of the best centers in the league during her time. But, she was very problematic. Even as a rookie, she already showed her true self after revealing that she was not going to play for Tulsa and become the team’s franchise player. She played there, though she left just two years after being drafted.
Then, there was the infamous 2020 Olympics video where Cambage was captured getting physical with the Nigerian team during a tune-up game. The video went viral and the 6-foot-8 center received immense backlash on the internet. Top it off with her withdrawal from the Opals (Australian Nationa Team) just weeks before the Olympics.
What really put the nail to the coffin was Cambage’s demand to be released by the Los Angeles Sparks last year. She really “wanted out” which the Sparks obliged, marking an end to their contract. Even she agreed that a lot of WNBA players and fans hate her, and she doesn’t even seem to care one bit.
Liz also made rounds on the internet after revealing that he has an OnlyFans account that works as her side hustle to fund her needs. Yep, a professional basketball player who gets paid hundreds of thousands of dollars is entertaining people on OF. Sounds about right. Anyway, Liz will be remembered for being notorious and famous for all the wrong reasons. Sadly, her WNBA career may be over, but at least she’s still playing somewhere while being paid millions.
