The father of young YouTube star Everleigh Rose, Tommy Smith, passed away at the age of 29 on September 9, 2022. Here’s his cause of death, explained.
What was Tommy Smith’s cause of death?
- On Tuesday, PEOPLE was informed by the Orange County Sheriff-Coroner that Smith’s demise, at the age of 29, was caused by an accidental overdose due to acute fentanyl intoxication. However, despite the confirmation of the cause of death, the case is still under investigation.
It was on September 14th that Everleigh Rose’s mother, Savannah LaBrant, revealed the news of the passing of her daughter’s father.
Following his unexpected demise last year, Smith’s obituary mentioned that he had “gained his wings unexpectedly”. The obituary described him as a cherished father, son, brother, grandson, and friend to many. It also expressed how his love for living life to the fullest, and his free-spirited nature would be sorely missed.
Why do people take Fentanyl?
Illicit fentanyl and its analogs are extremely hazardous synthetic opioids that have a high potential for abuse and severe adverse effects, including coma and fatality. They are often added to street drugs such as heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine, or sold as substitutes for heroin to unsuspecting users, resulting in an increased risk of overdoses.
Fentanyl overdose can cause a decrease in breathing, which can lead to hypoxia, a condition where the brain receives insufficient oxygen. Hypoxia can cause a person to go into a coma, suffer from permanent brain damage, or even result in death.
People may take fentanyl for various reasons. It is often used to relieve severe pain that other medications have not been able to control, such as pain from cancer. However, some people may misuse fentanyl to achieve a euphoric high, or to aid with sleep.
What did Tommy’s ex have to say about his death?
A few days following Tommy’s passing, Savannah LaBrant, his ex-partner and mother to their 10-year-old daughter Everleigh, shared a post about his death. In her post, she expressed how their hearts were heavy, and they were still trying to come to terms with the loss of Everleigh’s father, Tommy. She also acknowledged how much he had loved his daughter.
In the post, she requested privacy for their family to grieve and continue loving and praying for Everleigh during this challenging time. She also expressed her gratitude for the thoughts and prayers extended to them, with a white heart emoji.
Savannah, who gave birth to Everleigh at 19, shared in an excerpt from her 2018 book, Cole and Sav: Our Surprising Love Story, about the highs and lows of her relationship with Smith.
Along with her 10-year-old daughter with Smith, Savannah and her current husband Cole have three children. In a 2020 video posted on Savannah and Cole’s YouTube channel, Smith also addressed his co-parenting experience with Savannah and responded to criticism aimed at her and Cole.
Despite splitting up shortly after the birth of their daughter Everleigh, Smith and LaBrant appeared to have an amicable co-parenting relationship.
Where is Tommy Smith’s funeral held?
A church located in Saddleback, California hosted the memorial services for Smith. Instead of flowers, the family requested supporters to donate to CHOC Children’s at Mission Hospital. The obituary suggested that to plant a memorial tree in memory of Thomas, supporters can visit their Tree Store or plant a tree.
What was Smith like with his ex and her co-husband?
- Smith even defended his ex and her husband Cole on TikTok, stating that both he and Savannah enjoyed co-parenting and asking people to stop directing hate toward them. He suggested people should do something productive like planting a tree.
In “Cole and Sav: Our Surprising Love Story,” Cole emphasized that he never wanted to replace Everleigh’s biological father and that she knows she has two dads who love her deeply.
Everleigh has an impressive online presence with almost 4 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, where she is seen trying out toys, pranking her family, and dancing.
Her family has its own YouTube channel, run by Savannah and Cole, with 13 million subscribers, in addition to Savannah’s Instagram account with 7.3 million followers, and Cole’s account with 4.9 million followers. They have three other children together.
