LICHDRAGON FORTISSAX – HOW TO BEAT

Elden Ring’s Lichdragon Fortissax is a boss. Lichdragon Fortissax is a gigantic four-winged black dragon found in Deeproot Depths that wields devastating lightning attacks. Lichdragon Fortissax will take advantage of the vast battleground and punish anyone who approaches him too closely. The wide variety of assaults he will be using to create havoc sets him apart from other dragons’ move sets.

While many of his assaults are predictable, knowing how each strike operates and what particular point you will need to evade the assaults poses challenges. This however gets worse as he enters his second phase and begins using a couple of extremely potent lightning attacks that do massive damage.

MAGIC-USERS

With a high catalyst, a simple spell like rock sling should suffice for sorcerers. Keep an eye out for death lightning. Keep Revitalizing Boluses on hand, and keep an eye out for the glaive sweep.

PHASE 1

  • Hit one of Fortissax’s forearms as you walk up to him. Look for regions where there will be fewer lightning strikes. Continue fighting Fortissax.
  • Evade his strikes and stay next to him, thus dodging deathblight clouds will keep you healthy. His initial phase will run until he has about nearly half of his HP remaining.
    • The combos that Fortissax can pull off get much longer in the second phase, which occurs when he reaches 50-60% health.

PHASE 2

  • Fortissax’s moveset will modify in two ways once he has reached 60% or below health.
  • First, he’ll get two new attacks: a lightning spear type in which he casts two bolts and strikes them into the ground consecutively, and a lightning glaive divebomb that finishes in a double spin with the weapon extended.
  • Second, he can now lengthen his combos.  These moves can now both be accompanied by a right swipe in phase 2, and the slam can also also be backed by a rearing firebreath or double bite.
  • Rearing Firebreath and Right Swipe can be followed by a Vertical Slam, and Double Bite by a Right Swipe.
  • His second phase has a few extra attacks making Lichdragon Fortissax an optional boss that is difficult to beat.

KEY TO WINNING THE BATTLE

  • Staying in front of Fortissax’s head and executing his different assaults is the most reliable and efficient way to defeat him. While dashing underneath him and slashing at his feet is one way to beat him.
  • Fortissax’s lightning barrier slows down the combat by forcing you to evade or dash repeatedly to avoid getting caught by the dropping charges, but it can also mix negatively with other attacks to either daze you or force you to dodge too early, allowing you to be hit by the approaching assault.
  • His head takes double damage and is a better target for the majority of the fight.
  • It’s also more crucial to stay close to Fortissax during this phase because his most damaging strike, the aerial glaive, is performed more frequently if you’re at midrange.
  • Additionally, because Fortissax possesses more lightning-based attacks with increased potency, increasing your lightning defense may be helpful. Still, keep punishing the double bites and slams, as well as any other strikes that come your way and those you feel confident dealing with.
  • Fortissax’s tremendous power makes him especially adept at detecting careless performance and might end you up retrying the entire match.
