God of war: Rangnarok- How to beat Garm

God of war: Ragnarok, Garm

Garm is the major boss you meet in the God of war: Ragnarok‘s 12 chapters: Reunion. This is not an easy opponent with 10 sections of Health Bars. But the trophy you get for it “Off The Leash” shall be a good reward for the fight.

 Main notes to defeat Garm

  • Using your Axe or Atreus’s bow and arrow is less recommended. Use them only when you are sure to avoid any injuries. They cause less damage to Garm but shall be needed ahead.
  • Use Spartan Rage and Runic abilities when Garm is downed. This attack shall be main and cause significant damage.
  • Be strategic about avoiding or blocking shockwaves with your shield. Garm doesn’t have many variations in the attacks but can be hard to defeat.

When you first discover Garm use the above-mentioned tactics. Try to down him with attacks and then use Spartan Rage and Runic abilities to cause damage. With this, you shall reach the first milestone when Garm gets six health bars low. If you die at any point it shall restart from here.

First Milestone

Post this milestone, Garm shall be quick and fierce in its attacks. You will need to pick up your speed and dodge. Now comes one of the major attacks when Garm lifts in the air and slams the front paws on the ground. It shall cue major shockwaves of ice which must be blocked with your shield. The chances of avoiding it are slime and shall not be attempted unless sure of no injuries.

The second major attack follows the first. This time Garm will lunge forward to bite you. At this point, your shield would be useless. You must avoid this attack. Now, a quick parry swipe on the head at this moment shall have Garm down in confusion. Hitting shall also have the same effect, aim for the head. Once down, you may unleash your attack with Spartan rage and Runic abilities.

Post this Garm shall lose 2 health bars and new attacks shall be introduced. First Garm shall wip its chain and lodge. Freeze its end. Once frozen you can pick it up and drag that hound. Then once again when down unleash your attacks.

Garm shall not take this attack lightly and start wiping its chain around several times. Here comes a tricky attack- Garm shall jump 3 times creating 3 different types of ice shockwaves. You must avoid this with a similar strategy as used before. Dodging is suggested unless you are sure of no injuries.

Here you shall face two ice balls from Garm that you need to dodge. With that, you shall reach the 2nd Milestone with Garm’s health bar at 4. Any death ahead shall bring you back to this stage.

Second Milestone

At this point, you shall see Garm climbing the arena. The following shall be two attacks- First, Several ice balls. you must dodge these. Second, A red ring shall appear on the ground. you must avoid it. and lastly, the familiar shockwaves of ice that you need to dodge. These attacks shall be repeated and get quicker. You may repeat the process until you can freeze and grab Garm’s chain.

From here onwards, you go towards the final battle. Upon knowing Garm is alive Kratos and Atreus need to escape Helheim. You may follow Atreus until you are trapped by Garm blocking your way. Here target its leg with your Spear and press a triangle. An ice ball attack shall follow which will knock you down to the floor below. Follow Atreus once again.

Now you shall reach a small arena for the showdown. The attacks and strategies shall be the same but instead of heavy melee attacks use Draupnir Spear targeting the gold braces around the legs and neck. You may attack until your health is depleted.

For the final attack, Garm shall slam onto the ground creating wide ice shockwaves. You may avoid this, drop garm two times, and grab its collar while Atreus climbs its back. The trophy shall be yours.
