Honkai Star Rail | Will your choices matter?

Honkai Star Rail Will your choices matter - Featured

While playing Honkai: Star Rail’s world and story quests, you may run into situations wherein you will feel like your choices matter. These choices include dialogue with other characters or deciding which jammed letter to take from a mailbox in Belobog. In this article, we will discuss whether or not the choices you make in Honkai: Star Rail affect the game’s story.

Will your choices matter in Honkai: Star Rail?

It’s not uncommon for your choices in a game to affect the overall story’s outcome. We’ve seen it in games like Until Dawn and Chrono Trigger. However, is this also applicable in Honkai: Star Rail? Should you think twice before performing a particular action or choosing a dialogue option?

The truth is that your choices do not matter in Honkai: Star Rail. If HoYoverse decided to go down this route, that would only complicate the entire game’s story. Each Trailblazer would be playing through different stories because of their choices.

  • Given how this is a live-service game, it would be too demanding for developers to have the main story branch out in different directions.

Some choices in Honkai: Star Rail reward you differently

On the other hand, some choices you make do affect your gameplay but not the overall story. One instance of this was encountering jammed letters in a Belobog mailbox.

  • In Honkai: Star Rail, you can take one of the jammed letters or push them inside the mailbox. Whatever choice you make does not affect the game’s overall story, but it does affect what reward you get.

  • If you take either the jammed left or right envelope, you get an Undelivered Letter and 1,000 Credits. On the other hand, pushing both jammed letters into the slot rewards you with one Praise of High Morals. You can then use your Praise of High Morals to collect the coins people throw in the Belobog fountain.

  • You can always choose the silliest choices whenever you encounter this dilemma. Doing that might give you one or two entertaining reactions from the MC themselves or the character you’re speaking with.

Side quests can have different endings depending on your choices

Even though your choices don’t affect the main story in Honkai: Star Rail, there are different endings in some of the side quests. You can only get different endings depending on your choices. As some players who played through the Closed Beta Test shared, they encountered these side quests in Star Rail.

The game also corrects you ahead of time if you make the wrong choice. We ran into this interesting feature while exploring Herta Space Station.

  • When Trailblazers find the locked computer, they must first answer the security questions to gain access to it. It doesn’t matter if you choose the wrong answers.
  • You are given multiple tries to get it right, and the computer doesn’t lock you out. The wrong dialogue choice gets greyed out after selecting it, so you’ll still select the correct dialogue option even if you don’t know the right one.
