It’s surprising how Pokemon GO still has a growing community now that we are in another year of our lives. Just when we thought the hype for this game would die down, trainers from all over are still on a mission to be the very best that no one ever was. To be the best, you must beat the best. Quite possibly one of the hardest trainers to beat in Pokemon GO, Arlo is still a force not to be reckoned with in January 2023. If you or any other trainers you know are having a hard time dealing with Arlo, stick with us to know all about how to beat him in Pokemon GO!
How to beat Arlo in Pokemon GO (January 2023)
In Pokemon GO, you can go head to head against Team GO Rocket Leaders. One of the toughest leaders of this group is Arlo. Throughout the years, he’s proven to be a menace as countless trainers try and fail miserably to beat him.
- One of our favorite things about Pokemon GO is how you can challenge the leaders of Team GO Rocket. If you encounter one of them in the game, they will engage with you in a tough battle against their Shadow Pokemon lineup. Since they are tough to beat, expect to get some of the best rewards if you manage to outlast them in a match.
- If you are able to defeat a leader of Team GO Rocket, you will be given the opportunity to catch one of their Shadow Pokemon. For those looking to get competitive in Pokemon GO, you will want to have a Shadow Pokemon on your team. This is because of their higher attack stats that prove to be useful in PvP fights and Raids.
Arlo’s Team
Arlo’s lineup when you fight him in Pokemon GO hasn’t changed for January 2023. If you’ve already gone against him in the past, then expect the same rotation from the trainer.

- He starts his fights by sending out Mawile. This Steel/Fairy-type Pokemon is always Arlo’s first choice in all his encounters. Things will only change up a bit in the next two phases for your battle with the Team Go Rocket Leader.
- In the second phase, Arlo sends out any of the three following Pokemon: Salamence, Staraptor, or Charizard.
- As for the final phase, prepare yourself to encounter any of the following Pokemon: Scizor, Granbull, or Dragonite.
Defeating Mawile
First things first, you’ll have to deal with Mawile when you start a match against Arlo. If you’re familiar with Arlo’s Shadow Mawile, it is a Steel and Fairy type that is weak against Fire and Ground type Pokemon. With that in mind, make sure to bring out any Pokemon that can dish out either Fire or Ground-type moves.

Here are some of the most suggested Pokemon to effectively counter Mawile:
- Entei
- Heatran
- Ho-Oh
