NBA: Is Draymond Green a future Hall-of-Famer?

Is Draymond Green a future hall of famer

In the realm of basketball legends, there exists a rare breed of players who transcend the ordinary and etch their names into the hallowed halls of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. Their skills, impact, and lasting contributions to the game make them the stuff of basketball immortality. One player who ignites fierce debates and intense discussions amongst fans, analysts, and basketball purists alike is none other than Draymond Green. Known for his fiery passion, defensive prowess, and unyielding will to win, Green has become a linchpin of the Golden State Warriors dynasty. But as the seasons unfold and his career evolves, the question reverberates louder: Is Draymond Green destined to join the pantheon of basketball’s greatest, earning his rightful place among the Hall of Fame elite?

Draymond Green’s resume: Hall-of-Fame worthy?

Draymond Green is not known for his offensive highlight but prides himself as a defensive monster. The 33-year-old power forward already has a fruitful 11-year run in the NBA despite being a player without a reliable jumpshot. Drafted 35th overall by the Golden State Warriors, Green proved to be one of the best second-rounders to have huge success in the NBA.

Here is a list of some of Draymond Green’s NBA accolades:

  • 4-time NBA champion
  • 4-time NBA All-Star
  • 2-time All-NBA team member
  • 8-time All-Defensive team member
  • 1-time Defensive Player of the Year
  • 2-time Olympic Gold Medalist

Truly, Draymond Green deserves to be a future Hall-of-Famer

According to basketball-reference.com, Draymond has a 76.82% chance of getting into the HoF. He is just sitting below Kawhi Leonard, who is probably going in there too. Maybe even first-ballot.

Currently, Green’s chances aren’t super high compared to other star players today. However, it’s believable he is going to be in the Hall of Fame once he hangs his jerseys on the rafters. Moreover, another icon of a similar caliber, Ben Wallace, only had a 45.3% chance of joining the Hall of Fame.

But, after many years of getting snubbed, Big Ben was eventually named in the class of 2021. He even made history by becoming the first modern-day undrafted player to become a Hall-of-Famer. That being said, Green definitely will be in the HoF once he retires.

Draymond Green’s Impact on the Golden State Warriors

Through 11 years, Draymond Green only averaged 8.7 points, 5.6 assists, and 7.0 rebounds. Stat-wise, he may look like your typical role player but don’t get fooled by his single-digit numbers.

Although he isn’t much of a scorer or shot creator, Green did most of the Warriors’ dirty work. While Steph Curry and Klay Thompson were jacking up threes, Draymond Green was out there fighting for every possession, setting every screen, locking down the opposing team’s best player, and making plays for the team. Surely, the intangibles he contributes cannot be measured by metric stats. But everything he does have helped the Warriors dynasty.

Green complimented the splash bros. so well, that they formed one of the best teams ever assembled. His IQ, court vision, heart, and dedication to his craft are almost unmatched. Green may be one of the most hated players today, but we can’t deny he is one of the best defenders who ever set foot on the hardwood.
