One of the most trending titles on Netflix in the past days is Doll House starring Filipino actor Baron Geisler. The film was released on the streaming platform last October 7, 2021, and since then, a lot of netizens are recommending Doll House to others looking for a good Netflix watch. Most people would give you reasons to watch the film but this time, I’m going to give you a few reasons why you shouldn’t watch Doll House on Netflix.

Doll House follows the story of father-daughter Rustin (Baron Geisler) and Yumi (Althea Ruedas). At first glance, it looks like any other family comedy movie made in the Philippines. But a closer look at Doll House on Netflix takes us on an emotional rollercoaster of regrets, love, and promises between a father and daughter.

Reasons, why you shouldn’t watch Doll House on Netflix, are if…

Netizens who already had the chance to sit down and watch Doll House on Netflix over the weekend would suggest more people watch it. As for me, I wouldn’t recommend watching this film for five reasons. After putting myself through an emotional hell after watching Doll House on Netflix so you don’t have to, here are my reasons why you shouldn’t watch this film.

1. You easily cry when watching a movie

I’ve watched my fair share of emotional films but something about Doll House really just tugged at my heartstrings. In this film, Baron Geisler plays the role of Rustin, a recovering drug addict who is also a musician. For those familiar with Baron’s life story, he has struggled a lot with drugs in the past. Maybe that’s one reason why he was able to embody the character of Rustin properly in the film.

There’s also the overall theme of Doll House that easily made me cry after watching the film. Doll House has a few emotional scenes up its sleeves that will surely get the waterworks going for its viewers. If you’re looking for a good cry, Doll House will do the job with its moving story paired with dynamic characters.

2. You have severe daddy issues

Another reason why you should avoid watching Doll House on Netflix is if you have severe daddy issues. Since the movie centers on the story of a father trying to make up for lost time with his estranged daughter, I don’t recommend this film to people who have strained relationships with their fathers.

Most of the scenes that will tug on your heartstrings happen between Rustin and Yumi, the movie’s protagonists. I’m trying my best not to spoil the ending of the film, but it will surely wreck you as much as it wrecked me. This is coming from someone who has minor daddy issues, too!

3. You’re a sucker for father-daughter movies

Following up with the second reason, you shouldn’t watch Doll House if father-daughter movies make you highly emotional. As I already mentioned, the story of the film focuses on Rustin and Yumi as they find each other again in the city of Rotterdam.

The title also holds a significant meaning in the film but of course, I won’t be spoiling you on that part! You’ll just have to watch the film to find out what’s so special about a doll house.

4. You know someone who comes from a troubled past

It may be especially hard to sit through this movie if you know someone like Rustin. His character is a recovering drug addict who just wants to make things right in his life again. However, he isn’t able to do this easily because of a lot of things from his past catching up with his present.

This person may be someone close to you like a friend or a relative or in some cases, you may find yourself being like Rustin’s character in the film. Whatever the case may be, Doll House on Netflix will make you emotional as you witness Rustin’s journey toward redemption and making things right in his life.

5. Bittersweet films aren’t your thing

For the final reason why you shouldn’t watch Doll House, your heart may be left wanting more after the film ends. Without spoiling you too much about the film’s ending, all I can say is that it can be interpreted differently. Some people who have watched may be satisfied with the ending, but there are those who are left with more questions as the credits roll.

If you don’t like asking a lot of what if’s, you shouldn’t watch Doll House on Netflix. The best word to describe the ending would be that it’s bittersweet, something that isn’t common in Filipino films. It’s a refreshing feeling, getting to watch a movie with that kind of ending. But of course, don’t watch Doll House if that isn’t your thing.

Should I watch Doll House on Netflix?

The simplest answer I can give you is yes, you should definitely watch Doll House on Netflix. Despite the fact that throughout this entire article, I’m not recommending this movie, there’s no denying that the story plus the performance from the actors were captivating. Make the most out of your Netflix subscription by watching this film!
