UFC: Is the Jon “Bones” Jones VS Francis Ngannou fight still happening?

John Bones Jones vs Francis Ngannou

After three years of hiatus and changing weight classes, John “Bones” Jones easily defeats the titleholder Ciryl Gane via a chokehold. Jones is already an undisputed champion with his new heavyweight title. But, after his anticipated victory, there is still someone that seems hungry for a fight with him – Francis Ngannou. Jones and Ngannou, who were previously the lined UFC 285 headline match did not push through after several controversies. However, with Jones now a heavyweight champion, will Ngannou rise from the ashes and re-claim his throne?

Is the Jones VS Ngannou fight still happening?

The matchup between the returning John “Bones” Jones versus the heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou was supposed to be the main event in the UFC 285. However, Ngannou refused to re-sign with UFC this year and instead became a free agent. On the other hand, Jones, who has not fought for three years, eyed his return this year for a possible huge battle in UFC 285. Needless to say, the fight between the two fighting juggernauts never happened.

Following Ngannou’s rejection of any contract with the UFC, Dana White said he is already closing any opportunities for the champion. When asked if there’s a chance for Ngannou to return, Dana White said: “It’s over, that’s over. He’ll never be in the UFC again.”

But, isn’t Dana White the same guy who said Jon “Bones” Jones will never headline a UFC fight ever again? Back in 2016, the UFC President said he does not trust Jones anymore. “I don’t (trust him), no. I don’t. In my opinion, I would never take the risk of headlining a show with Jon Jones again.”

Well, things do change. UFC 285 came, and John “Bones” Jones unsurprisingly is the headline fighter. So, there’s definitely not a “never” in UFC. One day, White would just shock us that Ngannou is back in the promotion. Moreover, Francis Ngannou congratulated Jones on Twitter, while also trolling the new heavyweight champion. The beef between the two is not yet resolved, so we might as well see them both go head-to-head on the octagon.

UFC Heavyweight Title on the Line: What’s at Stake in the John Jones vs. Francis Ngannou Fight

Bones (Jones) now has a record of 27 wins and 1 no-contest while The Predator (Ngannou) held a record of 17 wins and 3 losses. Both have been crowned champions in their respective weight class. The UFC Heavyweight Title is one of the most prestigious titles in combat sports, and the supposed fight between John Jones and Francis Ngannou is poised to be one of the most highly anticipated matchups in recent history. It could even go as the battle of the century.

For Francis Ngannou, the current heavyweight champion (at least for him), this fight represents a chance to solidify his position as one of the most dominant heavyweight fighters in the history of the sport. Ngannou has already proven himself as a fearsome striker, with 12 of his 17 victories coming by knockout, and a win against Jon Jones would further cement his legacy as one of the greatest heavyweights of all time.

On the other hand, for Jon Jones, a victory over Francis Ngannou would make him the greatest fighter of all time.

Jones is already widely regarded as one of the greatest light heavyweight fighters in UFC history. However, a win over Ngannou at heavyweight would be a remarkable achievement and a testament to Jones’ exceptional skill and versatility as a fighter. Ultimately, the stakes for this fight are incredibly high, with both fighters looking to cement their legacies as all-time greats. The winner of this fight will not only walk away with the UFC Heavyweight Title but also the admiration and respect of fans and fellow fighters alike.
