The importance and legacy of Captain America in the Marvel Comics as well as the Marvel Cinematic Universe is unparalleled. Steve Rogers’ super-soldier holds a special place in the hearts of millions of fans, alongside the likes of the beloved Spider-Man and Iron Man. The upcoming film Captain America: New World Order hopes to carry on the torch. Here’s what we know so far about Captain America: New World Order including confirmed cast members and release details.

The new Captain America

Chris Evans’s Captain America famously stepped down in Avengers: Endgame making way for Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson to take up the mantle. 

  • Anthony Mackie will return in an attempt to establish himself as the successor to Steve Rogers in Captain America: New World Order. His previous appearance as Falcon was in the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

  • The film will explore the effects of becoming Captain America on Sam Wilson, with special emphasis on how African American soldiers were treated during the super soldier experiments.
  • Sebastian Stan will not be returning as Bucky AKA the Winter Soldier as he will be leading the MCU’s Thunderbolts movie in 2024.

Confirmed cast and characters

Captain America: New World Order’s cast is confirmed to feature the return of some long-time associations with the MCU as well as some fresh characters from the comics.

  • Legendary actor Harrison Ford officially enters the MCU with New World Order. The Indiana Jones star replaces the late William Hurt as General Thaddeus Ross from The Incredible Hulk and Black Widow.

  • Danny Ramirez will reprise his role as Joaquin Torres from the Disney+ series as Sam Wilson handed him over the Falcon suit.
  • The film also marks the entry of Sabra (played by Shira Haas), a Jewish-Israeli superhero from the Marvel comics. Other cast members include Carl Lumbly as Isaiah Bradley and Tim Blake Nelson as Samuel Sterns from The Incredible Hulk.

Plot details

As of now, Marvel has not revealed any official synopsis or plot details for Captain America: New World Order. All we know is the film follows the events of the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Kevin Feige announced the film as part of Phase Five of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, alongside others like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.3 and Thunderbolts. Captain America: New World Order will release on May 3, 2024.
