Marvel, yet again, spoils us with more new trailer releases, and this time, they are treating us with The Guardians of the Galaxy: Holiday Special. We are not getting tired of it. Rather, they should do this very often because, why not? Right? It is the holidays.
The First Holiday Feature
To lift our spirits for the holiday season, Marvel Studios is releasing a special presentation about the Guardian of the Galaxy’s first holiday film and Peter Quill’s very special Christmas gift. I might have dropped the bomb too early but let us have a quick breakdown of this gem.
The trailer begins with Peter Quill facing the camera with a sad and desperate look on his face. “I just saw in the calendar that right now on Earth, it’s almost Christmas time,” Kraglin tells Nebula, Drax(yes, he’s here, and let’s get over it) wearing a hooded vest, and Mantis while the camera pans over on what seems to be a plaza back in Contraxia.
“We don’t have time for trivialities like Christmas,” replies Nebula as a balloon Santa gets deflated. “But Peter’s so sad about Gamora being gone,” says Mantis.
Peter’s Gamora for the Holidays, please.
As it implies, Peter is still yearning to find Gamora who will, or might, be appearing in this film or as Google confirms it. She appears when you click to show more in the casting search.
Then we see an aircraft flying about and avoiding asteroids into a hexagonal portal, probably leading to Earth.
Mantis says, “Maybe if we go to Earth for a wonderful Christmas gift… it would make him happy.” as the aircraft lands just above Hollywood. Mantis and Drax then walk the Hollywood walk of fame to find a Holiday present for their leader.
Rocket switches on a spotlight on what appears to be a Christmas village with Peter’s eyes gazing in awe at this holiday special. Then we see the team in a nightclub, dancing, drinking and just having fun. Kids still need their parents when they want to watch this holiday special.
Earth Holiday Mission
Mantis goes on to say, “Something special he will never forget.” Groot, maybe a teenager now, hands them out presents and Quill taps his arm, Mantis and Drax hugging it out.
A slight pause, “What about someone special?” Drax replies and Mantis gives a surprised look. We see the two together, probably far, far away from the rest of the Guardians, approaching a Holiday-lit house while carrying a candy cane and a stuffed elf.
Mantis presses the doorbell… “We are looking for the legendary Kevin Bacon.”
Referencing this, we all remember in Infinity War when on Titan, they were devising a plan to stop Thanos but Parker and Quill had a brief chat about Footloose.
Foot on the Loose
Drax repeats what Mantis just said then in rebuttal, “Your voice was small and mousey. I think maybe he didn’t hear you.” Drax breaks in through the glass door startling Kevin Bacon who is probably calling for security. This holiday special is just getting better.
“You’re coming with us… as a Christmas present” Drax exclaims. Kevin runs for his life and then pulls the Christmas tree onto the ground.
We see the cast roll over one by one and Marvel surprises us with the presence of Cosmo the Astro-dog and the introduction of Kevin Bacon being chased by Drax and Mantis maybe bouncing from one trampoline to another.
This is absolutely a good break from all that action, suspense, and thriller from the previous films. A good laugh for the holidays always has a place in our hearts.
The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special starts streaming this November 25 only on Disney+.
