Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 221 showed the remaining Culling Game players and their allies gearing up to fight Sukuna and Kenjaku, after the body-hopping sorcerer forced Kogane to add a new rule declaring that the death-match will continue until all players except Suguru Geto and Megumi Fushiguro remain alive.

But the King of Curses managed to neutralize a key player on the sorcerers’ side, who likely has the ability to exorcize him once and for all. Hana Kurusu survived the attack after being rescued by Rin Amai and treated by Ieri and Yuta, but lost an arm, rendering her unfair for participating in the upcoming battle. But the loss of Angel’s ability due to Hana’s injuries leads us to the question of whether the winged sorcerer has a cursed technique of her own.

Is Angel the source of Hana Kurusu’s strength in Jujutsu Kaisen?

Hana and Angel’s relationship

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 210 revealed Hana Kurusu’s backstory, and explained why she had taken an interest in Megumi Fushiguro. The flashback confirmed that the girl was able to see curses even as a child, being imprisoned by a cursed spirit playing mother to a number of orphaned children. Hana managed to escape by following Megumi’s Divine Dog and became fixated with him, determined to help people and be worthy of standing by his side someday.

While Jujutsu Kaisen is yet to reveal how Angel and Hana met, the latter likely offered to become a vessel for the ancient sorcerer in hopes of gaining the strength required to be united with the Ten Shadows sorcerer once again. Since Angel and her host had a symbiotic relationship with each other, Hana possibly became a medium for using Angel’s cursed technique and jujutsu.

The wings which granted her the ability to fly seems to be an effect of absorbing Angel’s cursed technique as well, since the flashback showed her as completely normal, but malnourished and traumatized child.

When Yuta asked Angel in Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220 if they could shift to a different vessel like Sukuna had shifted from Yuji to Megumi, the sorcerer admitted that the King of Curses was unique in that aspect. Angel revealed that the real reason why so many ancient sorcerers had struck a deal with Kenjaku and agreed to reincarnate in the modern world was because none of them had been able to turn themselves into cursed objects after death. But they explained that Sukuna experienced it once, and had likely learnt to divide his soul as a cursed object.

Angel’s explanation also suggested that Sukuna’s mummified fingers were indestructible because he had turned them into powerful cursed objects containing parts of his soul. But similar to the other sorcerers who had reincarnated within modern sorcerers who were chosen by Kenjaku to become vessels, Angel has permanently become a resident within Hana’s body.

Is Hana a cursed object in the Jujutsu Kaisen manga?

Jujutsu Kaisen Chapter 220 also revealed that Yuji has become something similar to a cursed object soaked in Sukuna’s cursed energy. Although Yuji did not inherit the King of Curse’s cursed technique, he gained the ability to manipulate and use cursed energy despite the discord between himself and the curse he was unwillingly hosting.

Angel clarified that none of the ancient sorcerers knew how to become a cursed energy, but her symbiotic relationship with Hana suggests that the latter now hosts the ancient sorcerer’s soul, akin to a cursed object. While it seems that Hana did not have a cursed technique of her own initially in Jujutsu Kaisen, Angel’s ability can only be accessed through her, giving her authority over the ancient sorcerer’s technique.
