In the earlier episode, we saw Bonchien taking Fushi to his new immortal friends. But once the revelation hit Fushi about Bonchien’s plan, he was torn. Bonchien is special, not only because of his prince-like heritage.

But also because he is capable of speaking with the dead. This is especially so for those whose fye remains in the world. He cannot touch them, of course. Bonchien in the manga is also shown to be capable of following Fushi irrespective of what form he takes, exactly due to his ability.
