Charles Band to direct low-budget ‘Barbenheimer’
For those unfamiliar with the B-movie landscape, Charles Band is practically a veteran when it comes to low-budget horror comedies. His company Full Moon Features is known for such B-movies and Band himself has been making these since the 1970s.
This year, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer premiered on the same day which paved the way to the viral ‘Barbenheimer’ tag on social media. This crossed Charles Band’s eye which made him decide to combine the two contrasting ideas and make a low-budget comedy movie.
In fact, it was his biographer Adam Felber who saw the potential in such a wacky film idea. Some have already begun to dismiss the movie as a cash-grab opportunity but the director believes Barbenheimer would be a lighthearted counterbalance to films of today.
Charles Band’s staggering 397th and most recent feature film was Bad CGI Gator which is a spoof of CGI-heavy monster movies like Sharknado. His upcoming low-budget Barbenheimer will surely turn heads of B-movie fans.

According to Charles Band, Barbenheimer follows the story of Dr. Bambi J Barbeinheimer, a scientist who lives in Dolltopia, similar to Barbieland. The scientist comes up with a diabolical plan after suffering at the hands of children who use her as a plaything.
As result, Dr. Barbenheimer creates an atomic bomb to end humanity. It goes without saying that the movie will be much lighter and shorter than the five-hour Barbie and Oppenheimer double feature routine which broke the internet.
So far, no cast members have been announced since B-movie stars remain relatively unknown to fans. Currently in pre-production, the movie will be made on a budget less than a million dollars which pales in comparison to the hundreds of millions of dollars spent for the original films.
There is no exact release date but the film will most likely come out in the early phase of 2024 since B-movie productions are often fast-paced. Furthermore, the production company will sell Barbenheimer merchandise including premium toys inspired by the movie.
