Get ready for an adventure to infinity and beyond with Woody and Buzz Lightyear, for a fifth time. Disney just announced that they are producing another Toy Story movie and the reactions have not been great. Despite being one of the most loved animated franchises ever, fans don’t want Disney to mess up the emotional endings that the toys received with another sequel. Here’s what we know so far about Toy Story 5.
Disney announces Toy Story 5
Earlier this week, Disney announced 7,000 job cuts as streaming numbers dropped. This comes in a long list of tech companies who have already laid off thousands of employees in the past few weeks alone.

What we know so far
Except the official confirmation from the executives at The Walt Disney Company, there are no details of a confirmed cast, crew, synopsis or even a possible release date.
- Toy Story 5 could possibly pick up from Toy Story 4 ended after Woody unites with Bo Peep and his friendship arc with Buzz Lightyear got a deserving conclusion.
See ya soon Woody, you are a sad strange little man and you have my pity. And off we go to a number 5! To infinity and beyond! pic.twitter.com/bwRzE487Vi

- Tim Allen, the voice actor of Buzz Lightyear, has tweeted about the confirmation of Toy Story 5. In his tweet, he mentions Woody which means the two toys will reunite.
Reactions to another sequel
Fans of the Toy Story franchise seem livid over the fact that the film is getting another sequel. It’s strange because usually when a movie gets a sequel, its fans get excited. But in Toy Story’s case, fans don’t want Disney to undermine the characters’ perfectly good endings.
Kinda wish they weren't making a Toy Story 5
They should've ended the franchise after Toy Story 3, it had the perfect ending 🥺pic.twitter.com/KavvGgaRJX— Childhood Shows (@ChildhoodShows) February 9, 2023
- When Toy Story 4 was first announced in 2015, it didn’t sit well with the fans because Toy Story 3’s ending was too beautiful to even go back to it.
- However, the fourth film was fairly decent as critics and audiences were satisfied with how Woody and Buzz Lightyear parted ways.
- In the end of Toy Story 3, the toys are faced with the reality that they may never see Andy again as he prepares to leave for college. So, in a tearful ending, he passes them on to a young girl named Bonnie, ensuring that they will continue to be loved.
Toy Story movies
Pixar’s Toy Story franchise has had a profound impact on the animation industry and popular culture. The first film in 1995 was a groundbreaking achievement in computer animation and storytelling, and it set the standard for animated films that followed.
- The Toy Story films have won numerous Academy Awards over the years. They have also managed to raise the standards for animated films at the box office.
- The most recent Toy Story film was Lightyear, a spin-off of the spaceman character, which didn’t do great with both critics and audiences.
