How much did each member of Gilas Pilipinas make in the 2023 FIBA World Cup? There are rumors and speculations about the Philippine National Team’s players’ salaries; we are here to show them. Let’s find out who got paid the highest and how much money they got during the group stage. But, before we start, some of these figures are from unknown sources, and Gilas or the organization doesn’t share the accurate amount.
Jordan Clarkson is the highest-paid Gilas member
It does not surprise everyone after we learned that Jordan Clarkson is being paid about $1 Million, with the exception of insurance pay. According to Fast Break, Clarkson will be receiving an estimated amount of $1 Million or about ₱56 Million.
It was all worth it after his superb 2023 FIBA World Cup performance. It may sound a bit of a stretch, but JC did carry Gilas Pilipinas. Unfortunately, even the 2021 6th Man of the Year’s scoring prowess isn’t enough. This year, JC signed a 3-year/$55 Million extension with the Utah Jazz.
Kai Sotto comes in second with a reported asking price of $400,000
Another report obtained by Fast Break has revealed that Kai Sotto’s camp asked Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) for a $400,000 compensation or approximately ₱22.4 Million. Currently playing for the Hiroshima Dragonflies in Japan B-League, Sotto hopes to be the first full-blooded Filipino to reach the NBA.
Some would say he is overrated or overhyped, but the kid has potential and still has a long way to go. However, there are rumors that SBP did not agree to the 400k request and trimmed it by half ($200,000). Unfortunately, Kai Sotto could not showcase his talents internationally due to a lack of playing time.
Overseas Filipino players like Dwight Ramos, AJ Edu, and Rhenz Abando could be getting huge money due to their current contracts
According to their current contracts, Filipino players playing in overseas leagues are actually gaining three times more than PBA players who are even getting the maximum. For the fan-favorite Rhenz Abando, Anyang KGC of KBL (Korean Basketball League) is expected to pay the high-flyer of about ₱9.5 Million in just his first year. That’s about ₱1.1 Million a month for six months of basketball season.
On the other hand, Dwight Ramos and AJ Edu play in Japan. Various sources reveal that Ramos and Edu will earn about ₱5 Million per season or about ₱600,000 a month. Considering all of these, we believe SBP will be matching their current monthly salaries.
June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar will secure a hefty bag
The number one and two highest-paid players of the Philippine Basketball Association also happen to be playing for Gilas Pilipinas. Two veteran stars, June Mar Fajardo and Japeth Aguilar, earn hundreds of thousands of Pesos in the PBA. Currently, the two are the only players being paid the maximum salary of about ₱400,000.
Locals like Kiefer Ravena, Roger Pogoy, Scottie Thompson, Jamie Malonzo, and CJ Perez probably have the least pay
As of now, we have no information on the actual figure for the minimum pay as a national team member. However, it would be acceptable to think that the locals obviously have lower salaries compared to Jordan Clarkson, Kai Sotto, and June Mar Fajardo.
As for the coaches, we really can’t say how much they make. But, given how Chot Reyes dressed in the World Cup, they sure are getting paid very well
It’s common knowledge that coaches aren’t hugely paid as star players, but they still get at that level. As for Gilas Pilipinas’ head coach, Chot Reyes, we have no idea how much he made during the group play of the World Cup. But, judging by his fashion statement (which gathered wild reactions from netizens), we would be led to believe Reyes is definitely getting paid by SBP and MVP (Manny V. Pangilinan).
