Worst Performers of the First Round in 2022 NBA Playoffs

As great and talented as some players could get in the regular season, more often than not, they sometimes crumble in the 2022 NBA Playoffs.

There are even some Hall-of-Famers who never came out of the first round (i.e. Tracy McGrady). With the 2022 NBA Playoffs kicking off, let’s see which stars are underperforming so far.

Trae Young

1st round Stats: 16 PPG, 4 APG, 4 RPG, 35% FG

After his deep playoffs run last year, you wouldn’t expect Trae Young would be this bad in the 2022 NBA Playoffs. The reason behind his bad performance could be Miami Heat’s emphatic defense. Nonetheless, Young is really ice cold in this series and could exit early this year.

Kevin Durant

1st round Stats: 26 PPG, 6 APG, 6 RPG, 38% FG

Although KD is still putting up huge numbers in the series against the Celtics, his shooting percentage declined. Part of it was because of Boston’s lockdown defense in the perimeter, preventing him and Kyrie from making their go-to isolation plays. It’s kind of surprising seeing Durant leaving the 2022 NBA Playoffs early. To add, it’s the first time this happened to him since 2010.

James Harden

1st round Stats: 18 PPG, 9 APG, 5 RPG, 37% FG

The Beard has been quiet so far in their matchup against the Toronto Raptors. He and the Sixers were up 3-0 against Toronto, but the Raptors are slowly coming back alive with two straight wins (3-2).

To be fair, we’ve made a huge benchmark for Harden because of his greatness in the previous years that’s why we think he’s underperforming this playoff. Also, his numbers are way below his averages in the regular season.

Zach Lavine

1st round Stats: 19 PPG, 6 APG, 5 RPG, 54% FG

Zach is putting up decent numbers, but these are just way off his superstar averages. Though we cannot blame him for the Bulls’ underachievement thus far.

D’Angelo Russell

1st round Stats: 13 PPG, 7 APG, 3 RPG, 31% FG

DLo is playing very inconsistently for the Wolves in the postseason. His numbers are off and even his shooting took a huge dip. He was deemed in the past as a borderline all-star but lately has proved he is not. Thanks to Towns and Edward’s huge output, they are tied with the 2nd seed Grizzlies (2-2) and could extend the series to 7 games.
